Abstract

The presence of antibiotic residues in food of animal origin (eg. bali cattle liver) is closely related to the use of antibiotics for the treatment of diseases and use as feed additives. This study is a survey that aims to determine whether there is antibiotic residue in the liver of Bali cattle marketed in several regional markets in Bali Province, namely Jembrana, Singaraja, Tabanan, Gianyar and Karangasem districts. This study used 30 samples taken randomly, 6 samples from 2 markets in 1 district. Sampling conducted 3 repetitions on each market with different traders. Testing of antibiotic residues using bioassay test method (screening test). The results showed that Bali's liver cattle marketed in several regional markets in Bali Province did not contain antibiotic residues.

Abstract

Cysticercosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the larvae of Taenia solium which can affect human and animal health. Papua is one of the endemic areas of cysticercosis in Indonesia. This study aim was to determine the seroprevalence of swine cysticercosis in the region of Wamena, Papua. A total of a hundred and eleven swine serum samples collected from the region was then tested by using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The results showed that the seroprevalence of cysticercosis in swine samples was 39.64% (44/111). It can be concluded that the seroprevalence of cysticercosis in swine of the region Wamena, Papua is realtively high. Therefore, it needs to design the disease control and eradicate program by relevant agencies in the region of Wamena, Papua.

Abstract

Dermatitis is a term of inflammation that occurs in the skin, resulting from infection with microorganisms and genetic factors, skin resistance and metabolism. The purpose of this study was to determine the healing of lesions in dogs that suffering from complex dermatitis that were given herbal cream preparations. The herbal cream used is derived from neem, pegagan and soursop plant extracts. This study used 4 dogs divided into 2 groups. Group A was 3 dogs that were given herbal cream preparations for 15 days and Group B was 1 dog as a control without herbal cream. Recovery of lesions was observed starting from day 0 to day 15. The data obtained were tested by the Wilcoxon test and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that in group A which was given herbal cream experienced a cure rate of lesions faster than group B without herbal cream. The administration of herbal cream had a significant effect (P<0.05) on dogs that suffering from complex dermatitis. Conclusion and the administration of herbal creams can accelerate healing of lesions in dogs that suffering from complex dermatitis.

Abstract

Curcuma (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) is one of the medicinal plants, which is widely used by the community, including used a lot in animals because it has many benefits for health. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the addition of curcuma flour on the feed toward the activity of ALT and AST on the broiler. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 24 female broilers aged 14 days which were divided into four groups, namely group P0 (normal feed without addition of curcuma flour), P1 group (curcuma flour 10gr/kg of the feed)), P2 (curcuma flour 20gr/kg of the feed)), and P3 (curcuma flour 30gr/kg of the feed)). After 35 days, the blood is taken through the brachial vein using 5ml syringe. Then, the examination of ALT and AST activity is conducted by using Photometer 5010. The data were analyzed by using ANOVA. The results showed that the addition of curcuma flour in broiler's feed did not affect the activity of ALT and AST (P>0.05). From the study, it can be concluded that the addition of curcuma flour in broiler's feed the dose 10 gr/kg of feed until 30 gr/kg of feed for 21 days were still classified as safe dosage.

Abstract

Extracellular matrix (ECM) is currently one of the most commonly used scaffolds for tissue engineering procedures. Extracellular Matrix (ECM) can originate from the submucosa of the small intestine or vesica urinaria (urinary bladder) of a pig. The purpose of this study was to determine the suitability and safety level of using pig’s vesica urinaria as an extracellular matrix to the process of healing open wounds in white rats and to find out the changes that occurred in the implant area after administration of urine vesica powder which was observed macroscopically. Thirty-two male white rats to be used in the study were adapted environmentally for 1 week and given commercial feed (pellet brand 552) and adlibitum drinking water. Rats were divided into two groups of 12 each. Group I (treatment) of 12 rats in the back area were injured with a scalpel blade 2mm deep and 2 cm long and treated with extracellular matrix material derived from pig’s vesica urinaria. Group II (control) ie 12 treated rats were the same as group I and were not treated. Monitoring the safety of the matrix material then observing the development of wound healing at 24 hours, day 5, day 10, and day 15 postoperatively by observing macros (redness, swelling, and scab). The results of the examination showed that the administration of extracellular matrix material accelerated the wound healing process compared to the control group with a perfect closed wound mark on the 15th day.

Abstract

Bali cattle are maintained in various ways, namely intensive, semi-intensive (simantri) systems, conventional and organic based maintenance. Organic based means that Bali cattle are fed with food from their environment without chemical additives such as minerals, vitamins, medicines, vaccines, supplements, and other addictive substances. This study aims to look at the value of Bali cattle lymphocytes and monocytes that are maintained on an organic basis. Samples in the form of whole blood were taken through the jugular vein and hematological examination was performed using the Veterinary Hematology Analyzer. The results of the study produced a mean total lymphocytes and monocytes 3,77 x /?l dan 0,53 x /?l. The average value of bali lymphocytes and monocytes that are maintained on an organic basis are still in the range of normal values.
