Abstract

Body scrub is a product that works to remove dead skin cells and open pores so the skin becomes brighter and whiter. This study aims to determine the effect of the moringa leaf powder addition and heating process temperature on the characteristics of body scrub and determine the percentage of the addition of moringa leaf powder and the best heating process temperature to produce a body scrub. This study uses a randomized block design with two factors. The first factor is the percentage addition of moringa leaf powder and the second factor is the temperature of the heating process. The first factor consists of 3 levels namely 4, 5 and 6% while the second factor consists of 2 levels namely 65oC and 70oC. The results of the study at the 6th week of storage showed that the addition of moringa leaf powder affected viscosity, spreadability power and adhesion power but did not affect the pH and overall acceptance of the body scrub. The temperature of the heating process does not affect the pH, viscosity, spreadability power, adhesion power and overall acceptance of the body scrub. Addition of 4% of moringa leaf powder and 65oC of the heating process temperature was the best treatment for body scrub with characteristics at the 6th week of storage as follows: pH 4.8, viscosity 10307 cp, spreadability power 5.2 cm, adhesion power 36.75 seconds and separation ratio = 1. Keywords: body scrub, moringa leaf, heating process temperature

Abstract

Bapak Bakery is one of the bread companies in Bali. This company has never taken productivity measurements. The company only uses the profits of sale production as a benchmark of its success achievement. PT. Bapak Bakery has problem in the field of production, namely lack of availability of raw materials which resulted in hampered production process so that consumer demand could not be fulfilled. The purpose of this study is to measure the level of production productivity, analyze the contribution of productivity ratio component and recommendation for PT. Bapak Bakery productivity improvement. The study uses the Objective Matrix (OMAX) method. In this study there are 5 ratios that are used as criteria in measuring productivity. The ratio is included in the criteria of efficiency, effectiveness and inferentiality. The productivity measurement results show that the lowest productivity index value is in March 2018 which was 175.3 and the highest value obtained was in July which was 501.6. Contribution analysis of productivity ratio component PT. Bapak Bakery who obtained the highest productivity value, namely ratio 1 with value of 830.7 and the lowest productivity value is ratio 3 and 4 with a value of 738. Recommendation of productivity improvement obtained ratio 1 in the amount of Rp. 131.724.436, ratio 2 is Rp 1.830.959 , ratio 3 is 6.471 hours, ratio 4 is Rp 600.064.834 and ratio 5 is 504 hours. Abstract

The purpose of this study was 1) to know the effectratioof turmeric and tamarind leaf extract on antioxidant activity. 2) determinine ratioof turmeric and tamarind leaf that has the highest antioxidant activity and has the highest antioxidant synergism. This study used a randomized block design are three groups. Ratio of turmeric and tamarind leaf (100;0, 60;40, 55;45, 50;50, 45;55, 40;60, 0;100). The variables measure in this study are : water content, total phenolic, antioxidant capacity, and vitamin C. The results showed that the ratio of turmeric and tamarind leaf has significant effect on all variables measured.Ratioof turmeric and tamarind leaf having the best is thetreatment has highest antioxidant activity from ratio 55% : 45% turmeric and tamarind extract.Ratio extract 55% and 45% acid leaves the antioxidant capacity of 4,84 (mg GAEAC/100g extract), total phenolic 12.8 (mg GAE /100g extract), vitamin C 426(mg /100 g ), the water content of 22.9% and have highest synergism with value of 179.28%. Abstract

This study aims to know the effect of the concetration of taro tuber starch and plasticizer type and their interactions on the characteristics of bioplastics, and to determine the concentration of taro tuber starch and plasticizer type which produces bioplastics with the best characteristics. The research used factorial randomized block design. The first factor is the concentration of taro tuber starch consisting of 3 levels 5, 6 and 7% (w/w). The second factor is the plasticizer type consisting of 3 levels that is glycerol, sorbytol and mixture plasticizer glycerol and sorbitol (1:1). Each treatment are grouped into two time-based of making bioplastics so there are 18 experimental units. Variabels observed tensile strength, elongation at break, Young’s modulus, swelling, biodegradation and FTIR. The data obtained were analyzed of variant and test Tukey’s. The result showed that the concentration of taro tuber starch and type of plasticizer had a very significant effect on tensile strength, elongation at break, Young’s Modulus and swelling but the type of plasticizer had no significant effect on biodegradation. Interaction between treatments has a very significant effect on Young’s Modulus and swelling, a significant effect on tensile strength and no significant effect on elongation at break and biodegradation. The concentration of starch 6% with plasticizer glycerol produces the best characteristics of bioplastics with tensile strength 2.270 0.057 MPa, elongation at break 14.5 0.01 %, Young’s modulus 15.683 1.155 MPa, swelling 29.88 1.02 % and biodegradability 6-7 days. FTIR analysis proved the existence of hydroxyl (O-H), carbonyl (C=O), C=C aromatic, carboxyl (C-O), C-H aromatic, and hydrocarbons –(CH2)n in the bioplastic. Keywords: Bioplastics, concentration of taro tuber starch, glycerol, sorbytol

Abstract

This study aims were to know the effect of ferric chloride (FeCl3) on biomass concentration andprotein content of microalgae Chaetoceros calcitrans and determine the best concentration of ferricchloride for production of microalgae Chaetoceros calcitrans with highest protein content. This studywas designed with randomized block design with single factor. The factor was different ferric chlorideconcentration consist of 4 concentration, i.e. 0 µM, 12 µM, 24 µM and 36 µM. Each treatment wasgrouped into 4 based on time of cultivation. The data obtained were analyzed by analyzed of variancefollowed by least significant difference test, if a treatment had significant effect. The result showed thataddition of ferric chloride had very significant effect on the b iomass concentration and protein content. The highest biomass concentration and protein content was obtained from the microalgae Chaetoceroscalcitrans which was cultivated in 36 µM ferric chloride amounted of 4.1 x 107cell/mL and 25.41%. Keywords: biomass, Chaetoceros calcitrans, Ferric Chloride, NPSi, protein.

Abstract

Cocoa pod husk is the highest waste of the cocoa fruit processing and has not been used optimally. The waste pod husk of cocoa contain polyphenol that can be used for antioxidants. Polyphenol on pod husk of cocoa can be extract using extraction method. This study aims were to determine the effect of the solvent concentration and particle size on the extract of pod husk of cocoa as a source of antioxidants and to determine the best of solvent concentration and particle size to produce extract of pod husk of cocoa as a source of antioxidant. The study was the experimental research which designed by using randomized block desin (RBD) with two factors. The first factor was solvent concentration that consists of 70, 80 and 90 percent of ethanol. The second factor wasparticle size that that consists of 40, 60 and 80 mesh. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with the Tukey test. The results showed that the solvent concentration and particle size had very significant effect while the interaction did not affect significantly of the yield, total phenolics and antioxidant capacity of the extract of pod husk of cocoa. 90 percent of ethhanol concentration and 80 mesh of particle size was the best treatment for extracting pod husk of cocoa as a source of antioxidants with characteristic 10.78±0.61 percent of yields, 110.65±0.80 mg GAE/g of total phenolics and 55.08±0.78 mg GAEAC/g of antioxidant capacity. Keywords : pod husk cocoa, solvent concentration, particle size, antioxidants
