Abstract

This study aims to address the main research question: How do teachers play a role in implementing literacy programs to improve the reading comprehension of third-grade students at Plumbon 1 State Elementary School? The research focuses on three aspects: teachers' roles, learning strategies employed, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in literacy program implementation. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving 15 third-grade students (6 boys and 9 girls) along with their classroom teacher. Data were collected through systematic observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed descriptively. Findings reveal that the literacy program, implemented for 1.5 years, had a positive impact: 80% of students showed high enthusiasm; reading comprehension improved in explicit meaning (73%) but remained low in implicit meaning (47%). Teachers assumed multidimensional roles as facilitators, models, individual guides, evaluators, and collaborators, applying 14 instructional strategies including a daily 15-minute reading routine, differentiated instruction, and the creation of text-rich environments. While the study provides in-depth insights, its limitations include the small sample size and the single-case design, which restrict the generalizability of findings. Nevertheless, the results emphasize that literacy program success requires systemic support from schools, teachers, parents, and home environments. The study implies that other elementary schools can adapt this literacy model by considering contextual factors and student characteristics. Furthermore, it offers a foundational reference for policymakers to enhance systemic support for the School Literacy Movement (GLS), including teacher training, resource allocation, and strategies for parental engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in writing academic scientific articles in universities. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were 54 respondents consisting of 39% lecturers and 61% students in Mataram City, Lombok, Indonesia. Data was obtained through questionnaires and analyzed using an interactive model that included reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. In addition, data source triangulation was used to consider the validity and credibility of the data used. The results showed that AI contributed positively to improving writing quality, time efficiency, and academic productivity. Platforms such as ChatGPT with a usage percentage of 30%, Grammarly 9%, QuillBot 5%, Meta AI 7%, Cici AI 1%, and others 12%, have been proven to assist in literature search/preference with a presentation of 35%, writing framework preparation (23%), idea or argument development (16%), followed by text paraphrasing (13%), language checking (12), and other uses (11%). The conclusion of this study is that the use of AI has had a significant impact on the transformation of scientific writing practices among lecturers and students. AI acts not only as a technical tool, but also as a cognitive partner that accelerates, enriches, and streamlines the academic writing process in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write short stories for grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 South Banawa through the application of a Jigsaw-type cooperative learning model. The background of this research departs from the low ability of students to write short stories, which is caused by a lack of interest, imagination, and the application of a learning model that is still teacher-centered. The type of research used is quantitative research with a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of 13 grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Banawa Selatan for the 2025/2026 school year. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, documentation, and tests (pre-test and post-test). The results of the study showed an increase in short story writing skills after the application of the Jigsaw-type cooperative learning model. The average score of the students was 51.07, while the average score of the post-test increased to 80.98. The results of the t-test analysis showed that the calculated t-value of 10.55 was greater than the t-table of 1.782 with a significant level of 0.05, so the research hypothesis was accepted. Thus, the application of the Jigsaw-type cooperative learning model has a significant effect on improving the ability to write short stories for grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 South Banawa.

Abstract

This study examines the various forms of suffering experienced by Palestinian children as portrayed in Qishash Athfal Najaw min Bayni Fakkay al-Mawt fi Ghazah. This approach explores the close relationship between the socio-political conditions of Gaza, the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict, and the trauma and violence reflected in children's narratives. Using a descriptive qualitative analysis, the study interprets data contextually through close reading without manipulating variables, emphasizing the understanding of textual phenomena and narrative elements. The research applies Ian Watt’s sociology of literature in combination with the interactive analysis model of Miles and Huberman to examine eighteen story fragments selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that Al-Aklouk’s narrative depicts children’s suffering through wounded bodies, profound trauma, forced maturity, and the persistent threat of war. Ultimately, the text serves as a moral witness to global injustice and affirms literature’s role as a medium of resistance and humanitarian advocacy.

Abstract

This research aimed to prove whether the use of dubbing video can develop the speaking skills of the tenth-grade students of Senior High School. This research used a pre-experimental research design with a sample of 34 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Purposive sampling technique was chosen because it focuses on students who have below average speaking skills. The class selected was class X B. Furthermore, research data were collected through speaking test administered twice as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administered to the experimental group before the treatment while the post-test was administered after the treatment. The researcher collected and analyzed data using the SPSS 29. The mean score of the pre-test is 29.53. Then, the mean scores of the post-test is 61.12. The data was statistically analyzed using the t-statistic formula with degrees of freedom (df) = N - 1 = 34 - 1 = 33. The result of this research showed the probability was 0.000 < 0.05. Based on this fact can be concluded that H0 was rejected. By looking at the result, it means that dubbing video was effective to improve students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This study investigates the types of English vowel interference produced by ten native speakers of Dawan language (Amarasi dialect) using an acoustic phonetic approach. The participants were recorded producing English words containing nine target vowels (/iː/, /ɪ/, /ɛ/, /æ/, /ʌ/, /ɑː/, / ɔː/, /uː/, and /u/) The formant frequencies (F1 and F2) were analyzed using Praat software to identify deviations from English vowels and classify the types of interference. The analysis revealed three primary interference types: substitution, under-differentiation and reinterpretation. Substitution interference involved replacing English vowels /æ/ → [a] and /ɔː/ → [o]. Under-differentiation occurred when speakers failed to distinguish English phonemic contrasts in vowels /iː/→[ɪ] and /ʌ/ → [ɑː]. Reinterpretation was observed in fronted or centralized realizations of back vowels, such as /uː/ → [ʉ] or [y]. Vowel space contraction and centralization were found in both English target and informant products, indicating Dawan vowel characteristics impact English pronunciation. These results highlight that L1 phonology strongly affects L2 vowel production and propose vowel contrast awareness pronunciation training.
