Abstract

The genus Hymenodictyon is a genus of often large, often deciduous trees which is widely distributed over the African and Asian-Malesian tropics, with 11 species recorded for Madagascar.

The lectotype specimen of Podoeonis megasperma is selected and this species is reclassified as Exosporium megaspermum (Boedijn) Rifai, a newly proposed combination.An illustrated redescription is presented.

Abstract

An Alpha-taxonomic account of Amorphophallus Blume ex Decaisne in Java including key identification to the species is presented. Eight species are recognized in Java, of which five species are endemic. Full description as well as the usages of some species as source of starch are presented.

Abstract

1. The present paper is the first of a series intended to deal from a nomen clatural point of view with all the generic names proposed for Hymenomycetes.For each name the following items are considered: (i) its etymology and gender, (ii) the original scope of the corresponding genus, and, in case of the name being- an isonym,also of the group covered by its basinym; (iii) the type species, which when not originally designated, is selected; (iv) its basinym, synisonyms,homonyms, typonyms,and variant spellings, if any, are indicated; (v) its status under the Rules is determined;and (vi) supplementary remarks are given when these are deemed useful.2. This first instalment deals with "Cyphellaceae," a group defined in a conventional, rather descriptive, manner, not as a taxonomic unit. 3. A new generic name, Stromatoscypha Donk, is introduced for Porothelium(Pr. ex Fr.) Fr.4. The following new combinations are made: Aleurodiscus digitalis (A. & S.ex Fr.) Donk [basinym: Cyphella digitalis (A. & S.) ex Fr.], and Stromatoscypha fimbriata (Pers. ex Fr.) Donk [basinym: Polyporus fimbriatus (Pers.) ex Fr.].

Abstract

Dipodium R. Br. (Orchidaceae), a genus of ca. 38 species, should be divided into an Australasian clade and a Malesian clade, based on morphological and geographic evidences. Dipodium section Dipodium and section Leopardanthus (Blume) O. Kuntze are re-defined to accommodate this change. An evolutionary scenario that explains this division is proposed. The lack of diversity of floral structure in the genus is probably caused by pollinator-specificity, while the diversity of plant form may be due to long-term environmental factors. An evolutionary explanation is suggested for the complex between Dipodium fevrellii J. J. Sm. and the hybrid D. pandanum Bailey in New Guinea. The complex in Java involving D. pictum (Lindl.) Rchb. f. and D. scandens (Bl.) J. J.Sm. is discussed, and the presence of a hybrid noted.In Borneo, the complex taxonomic situation caused by repeated inter-breeding of populations is noted.
