Abstract

The genus Cylindrocladivm was erected by Morgan in 1892 for a Mucedinaceous fungus with Penicillium-like branching and long,cylindrical,two-celled conidia.The original diagnosis runs: — Cylindrocladium Morgan. "Hyphae steriles repentes,fertiles erectae,dichoto mice ramosae,septatae, basidia in apice ramorum subterna fusoidea,conidia cylin- dracea, 1-septata." The type and only species,Cylindrocladium scoparium Morgan,was found on dead pods of Gleditschia triacanthos L.In 1900 the same fungus was reported by Ellis and Everhart on dead leaves of Asimina triloba Dun.They considered it a new species of the genus Diplocladhim Bonord.and described it accordingly as Diplocladium cylindrosporum Ell.& Everh.In 1912 Hawley (see Rea and Hawley) erected the genus Candelospora with the following diagnosis

Abstract

 MOGEA, JOHANIS P. 2004. Four new species of Arenga (Palmae) from Indonesia. Reinwardtia 12 (2): 181 – 189. -- Arenga distincta from Borneo and A. longipes, A. plicata, and A. talamauensis from Sumatra are described and illustrated for the first time. The descriptions are followed by information regarding the habitat and geographical distribution, and notes on morphological similarities with other, presumably related species.Leaves of A. longipes and A.talamauensis are paripinnate while the other two species are imparipinnate.

Abstract

One hundred forty-five individual lianas were distributed on 2 East facing ridges on the second highest mountain on Java, Mt. Slamet (3418 m.), Central Java, Indonesia. Twenty one colonies were observed on small flat areas on ridges. The liana species observed include: Embelia pergamacea, Toddalia asiatica, Elaeagnus latifolia, Schefflera lucida, Vaccinium laurifolium and Lonicera javanica. Diameter of each liana was measured and liana density/flat area calculated. Floristic collecting was under- taken within the elevational gradient of liana distribution. Data suggest an ecotone transition from lower to upper mon- tane forest is observed between 2200 and 2300 m, though forest types are difficult to determine due to disturbance caused by fire at the upper elevations. Observing lianas at these unusuall high elevations with near pluvial rainfall, con- tradict established scientific theory concerning global distribution and abundance of lianas.

A description has been given of the pollen grains of Whiteodendron moultonianum and Kjellbergiodendron celebicum. After this the relationships of both are discussed.

Abstract

ARDI, W. H . & THOMAS, D. C. 2018. A new species of Begonia (Begoniaceae) from South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and an augmented description of Begonia bonthainensis. Reinwardtia 18(1): 19−26. — Based on collections from South Sulawesi, Indonesia, an amended description of B. bonthainensis Hemsl. is provided, B. grandipetala  Irmsch is placed in synonymy of B. bonthainensis, and the new species Begonia mattampensis Ardi & D.C.Thomas is described and illustrated. Provisional conservation assessments indicate an Endangered (EN) status for B. bonthainensis, an endemic of Mt. Lompobatang and several adjacent mountains at the tip of the Southwestern arm of Sulawesi, and a Critically Endangered (CR) status for Begonia mattampensis, a limestone endemic only known from the Pangkadjene Karst.

Abstract

Local communities have their own means of maintaining their traditional know-ledge and sustaining the production system of natural resources by designating the resources as sacred. Without the state's influence, local people have their own strategies to conserve the environment and resources, in ways which are more effective than those enforced by the state. A study done through interview, participatory observation, and ethnographic methods revealed that local people recognized two models of natural resources conservation. The first model is the designation of forests as sacred site, aiming at maintaining the sustainability of ecosystem and the second model refers to adoption of species as a sacred entity to sustain production system. Dynamic processes are operating in the sacredness of both forest and species.

Lepidadenia seloang Miquel represents: Phoebe declinwta Bl.4. New Lauraceae: Beilschmiedia glabra, B. dictyoneura, B. bangkae, B. raontanoides, B. rivularis; Endiandra ochracea, E. magnilimba.5. In Meliaceae are newly described: Aphanamixis reticulosa, Lansium pedicellatum and L. sepalinum.6. Sterculia minahassae Kds. is referred to Firmiana. F. philippinensis Kosterm. is reduced to synonymy.
