Abstract

Peat land has specific character, depends on depth of peat and peat decomposition rale.Earthworms has a role in decomposition,carbon cycle, nutrient redistribution, bioturbation and cycle of nutrient.The aim of the research was to identify the population and diversity of earthworms on peat soil in central Kalimantan and to get species of dominant earthworm in peat land.The research was carried out in several peat land use in Basarang and Kalampangan, Central Kalimantan within dry and rainy season.The collection of earthworms was by using hand sorting method. The result showed that population of earthworms on mulch was higher than the deep peat.Land use influenced population and diversity of earthworm. The population and diversity of earthworms were highest on pineapple (shallow peat soil).The dominant species earthworm in peat land was Iomoscolex corethurus.

Abstract

Fish fauna survey biodiversity was conducted in Ujung Kulon National Park, Pandeglang-West Java, to reveal fish diversity in mangrove ecosystem. Samples were caught using electrofish (12 V 10A), gill net (mesh sized 1-1.5cm) and fishing tackle.Result showed that there were 58 fish species belongs to 34 families and 43 genera Gobiidae was a dominant famili with 8 spesies, followed by Apogonidae, Chandidae, Lutjanidae and Serranidae each with 3 species. Cigenter river has highest diversity with H = 2.74, E=0.930, d = 5.346. Serinding fish (Ambassis dussumieri) was the highest abundance compared to others.

Abstract

Amorphophallus muelleri Blume (Araceae) is one of 27 Amorphophallus species occur wild in Indonesia (Sumatera, Java, Floresand Timor). The species is valued for its glucoman content for use in food industry (heathy diet food), paper industry, pharmacyand cosmetics. The cultivation of A. muelleri is hampered by limited genetic quality of seed. The species is triploid (2n=3x=39),the seed is developed apomictically. and pollen production is low. The species is only propagated vegetatively. This may explainthat the species is difficult to breed conventionally and genetic variabillity in the exiting landaraces cultivars is rather limited.Induced mutation using ethyl methan sulfonate is one of techniques to increase genetic variation. The present research is aimed todetermine Lethal Dosage (LD) 50% and 75% of EMS and to study effects of EMS on growth of A, muelleri in vitro cultures for usein induced mutation program. Results of the experiment showed that LD-50 and LD-75 was observed at 0.875% EMS and 0.5%EMS. respectively. Number of shoot, and percentage of rooting culture were decreasing as EMS level concentration increases.

Abstract

Study on diversity and distribution of insects was conducted in seven small islands of Karimunjawa National Park. Central Java from March 24 to April 7, 2006. using two collection methods i.e. pitfall traps and sweeping nets. The study collected 108 species of insects from the seven small islands included 9 ordo of 44 families. They were Lepidoptera (27 species), Odonata (7 species).Orthoptera (8 species). Mantodea (2 species). Blattodea (9 species). Hymenoptera (20 species). Diptera (8 species), Coleoptera (12 species) and Hemiptera (15 species). The highest number of species was collected from Karimunjawa Island (96 species), while other islands were low: denting (30 species).Kumbang (23 species).Kembar (26 species), Nyamiik (56 species). Parang (50 species) and Bengkuang (23 species).Base on fuction on nature, these insects could be divided into phytophagous, pollinator, decomposer, pasitoid, vector and unknown.Three species of butterflies were rediscovered during this study - they were Euploea crameri karimondjawensis.Euploea syhesier karimondjawana and Idea leitconoee karimondjawae. while one species Neplis columelle karimondjawae has not been found yet. Shannon. Simpsons, and Fishers Alpha indexes, and similarity of Jackard to compare the difference among the islands is disccussed.

Abstract

Mangroves is an essential natural resources and vital component tor coastal areas both ecology and socio-economic.Adapted mangrove vegetation on tsunami disaster is important information for mangrove rehabilitation post-tsunami.The aim of the research was to determine the structure and species richness of mangrove vegetation post-tsunami in Aceh and Nias Island by vegetation analyses and inventory methods, field survey was carried out in March 2005 - three months after tsunami disaster.We found 20 adapted mangrove species post-tsunami in Nias island, dominated by Rhizophora apiculata. Land system of KJP was compound of 17 adapted mangrove species, and land system of PTG and KHY were each compound of 7 adapted mangrove species, Based on our research, we recommended that R. apiculaw is the first priority species to be used for mangrove rehabilitation in Nias island.

Abstract

The endophytic fungus Diaporthe sp.E show a unique ability to biotransform (-)-epicatechin into (-)-(2R,3R,4R)-leucocyanidin in a semisynthetic medium. Extension of the incubation time gave a major product (-)-(2R,35)-dihydroquercetin which was identified by spectroscopic methods.

Abstract

An exploration of selenium containing herbs was carried out in the Kerinci -Sumatera, Toraja highland-Sulawesi and Rinjani-Lombok. The herbs were sampled according to their morfofisiological characters and local etnopharmalogical information.The analitical parameters were the selenium and selenomethionine content as measured by AAS and GC respectively, gluthathione peroxidase as measured biochemically dan cell model shrinkage observation to reveal the selenium containing extract effect on celluler development. The result indicates the diversity of both content and functional selenium compounds in the selected herbs.The relatively high selenium content herbs such as A Ilium sativuin 1NHR had hingher gluthathione peroxidase and hence its antioxidant activity.However the relatively lower selenium content of Physalis angulata 33NHR was able to induce more cell model shrinkage. The phenomenon of relation among selenium based selenoamino acid, antioxidant and cell shrinkage potential need to be futher studied on these selected herbs.

Abstract
