Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Gunung Halimun National Park is known to be the area of head waters of a number river systems originate. However, there has been no information on fishes diversity at this area.In this regard, a series of ichthyofauna study was conducted from 1996 to 2000. Thirty seven species belonging to 13 families and 26 genera have been found in the rivers and streams in Gunung Halimun National Park and its adjacent area.Gobiidae was dominant, comprising 13 species or 36,36 %, followed by Cyprinidae comprising 5 species or 16.13 %.These Gobioid species were derived from Cisukawayana and Cimaja River, two of the rivers existing in Gunung Halimun National Park which flow south, to the Indian Ocean. In river flowing north i.e, Cikaniki, Ciberang and Cidurian, even from the middle of Cisadane River these fishes were not found. The fishes species which were found in common in rivers flowing north and south were Rasbora aprotaenia,Puntius binotatus, Channa gachua, Clarias batrachus, Poecilia reticulata and Xiphoporus helleri. Up to the present ten fish species were found within the park such as R. aprotaernia, P. binotatus, T. tambra, C. gachua, P. reticulata, P. latipinna, Cyprinus carpio, Monopterus albus, Glyptothorax platypogon and Lentipes sp. It was found that genus Lentipes and Schismatogobius marmoratus extend their range to Java (new record for Java) as well as Rasbora aprotaenia extends its range to southern Java.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia, in Rio de Janeiros United Nations meeting (1992) was considered as one of the world mega biodiversity regions. The biodiversity richness also shown in the high variation of her fish species both fresh water and marine.Collection of scientific materials in a zoological museum is an imvaluable treasure of a country, and important in the study and conservation of biodiversity. This paper discusses aspects of international standard on fish scientific collection management including steps started from initial collection, processing, delivery, maintenance and material exchange for scientific purpose.

Abstract

Gunung Halimun National Park (GHNP) is one of the remaining tropical forest in Java, still has high interaction with people who live in the surrounding areas.Eventhough there were some studies on ecology and ethnobotany in this area,it is still lacking of information on these subjects. This paper presented the results of ethno-ecology studies at several areas in GHNP such as East Halimun sector (around Gn.kendeng) and South Halimun sector (around Pangguyangan). The studies were carried out through vegetation analysis with Random Quadrats method and Participation method with interview technique.By these methods data were collected for the Important Value Index (IVI) and the Use Value Index (UVI) of species. These values showed that rasamala (Altingia excelsa), for tree stage, has the highest IVI and UVI but for the sapling stage the IVI is low. Kianak (Castanopsis acuminatissima) for tree and sapling stages the IVI is high but the UVI is low, while for maja (Magnolia macklottii), the UVI is high but the IVI is low for both tree and sapling stages. Based on these data, analyzed was done regarding the presence and the prospect of these species, in the context of the lifestyle of the villagers.

Abstract

Peat forest vegetation in Bengkalis, Riau Province was studied using plot method. Two plots of 60 m x 40 m were placed at two locations which were different in peat physical condition (Plot 1: hemofibric, > 4 m deep, inundated; and Plot 2: hemosapric, 3 m deep, rarely inundated). The results showed that there were 79 species (diameter > 2 cm) included 49 species of trees (dbh > 10 cm) and 52 species of saplings (diameter 2-9,9 cm). Total number of species in plot 1 was higher (55 species; index diversity- H=3.048) than that of plot 2 (39 species; H=2.606), but, density and total basal area in plot 1 was lower than that of plot 2. Species similarity index in both plots was 19%.The most dominant tree species in plot 1 were Baccaurea macrocarpa, Ficus sp. and Palaquium hexandrum, whereas in plot 2 were Calophyllum soulattri, Ganua motleyana and Palaquium burckii. The influence of physical and peat soil nutrient on structure and species composition will be discussed in this paper.
