"Jurnal Energi dan Manufaktur" is released biannually on April and October, respectively. Abstract

Centrifugal pump is a widely used pump in daily application related to its wide range of head and capacity. In recent years, a number of researches have done considerable work on the improvement of characteristic and performance of centrifugal pumps. This paper explained result of the experiment on the effect of diffuser and haggard lock nut impeller toward to characteristic and performance of the centrifugal pump. Type of the modified pump was GRUNDFOS NF 13-18 no. 9199756 with water 27OC as working fluids. The result showed that the total head and efficiency of the modified pumps was well improved.

Abstract

Tapis kelapa (Coconut filter) as natural fiber, in this time its resources very copius but no longer be exploited and thrown off hand as waste though in fact its used for other material dissimilar inovatif and high economic valuable that is as one of natural fiber alternative to be composite. The objective of this research is to investigate the behavior changing of physical and mechanical properties of composite tapis kelapa as reinforcement and epoxy 7120 with hardener Versamid 140 as matrix. The fiber is treated with the chemical NaOH and KMnO4 with percentage 0.5%, 1%, and 2% in weight, respectively. The ratio of epoxy and hardener is 7:3 and 6:4, and fiber orientation 0o, 45o, dan 90o. For testing of the speciment in tensile test with ASTM standard D3039 and three point bending test with ASTM standard D790. The result of this research obtained that fiber treatment with KMnO4 give the better effect to machine properties compared to NaOH. Variation of percentage 0.5%, 1%, and 2% NaOH and KMnO4 give the effect in fiber surface which higher percentage make the cleaner of surface, decrease of wax contain, and roughness of fiber surface so that stronger of linkage of fiber and matrix and increase of tensile strength, bending strength, and bending modulus of the composite. The highest tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and bending strength are 70.23 MPa, 446.24 GPa and 97.81 MPa respectively reached at composite with ratio epoxy/hardener 7:3; by 2% KMnO4 and fiber orientation 45o. While the highest modulus of elasticity is 385.48 GPa reached at composite with the ratio epoxy/hardener 6:4; 2% KMnO4 and fiber orientation 90o. Abstract

One of the important aspects in thermal design is refrigeration and air conditioning. Working principle of air conditioning is absorption and thermal dissipation process. Condenser is main component to release the heat from refrigerant to the cooling medium. In the present research, water cooled condenser was used to replace the commonly air condenser. Pressure and temperature at some section of the components were observed in order to examine the performance of the air conditioning system. The results showed that the COP varied from 9.66 to 12.4; refrigerationg effect varied from 1.31 kW to 1.86 kW; cooling capacity varied from 0.38 TR to 0.53 TR; and heat transfer varied from 2.2 kW to 2.98 kW.

Abstract

The research discussed about the work system of The Line Tracer Robot movement analysis, with using the AI program and assembler programming language. The tools that used are microcontroller type AT89S51, Meitan ASM 2005 Standard Edition version 1.00 as development tools and Meitan 2005 as the hardware tools modul. From the result of research, it can be known that The Line Tracer Robot with AI program is able to show differences, among the white as a based colour and black as a line colour. The AI program is able to accelerate/coordinate the system of work, between the censor and the parts of driver motor combinations. The robot that did not use AI program can not run well, and the wheel just able to rotate in one direction.

Abstract

The serpentine tube heat exchanger is one of most widely used heat exchanger to release heat by natural convection. The ability of the tube heat exchangerto release the heat is represented by its efficiency. The present research analyzed the effect of space between tubes and the mass flow rate to the tube heat exchanger efficiency. Three serpentine tube spaces (4 cm, 5 cm, and 6 cm, respectively), and three mass flow rates (0.015 kg/s, 0.018 kg/s, and 0.021 kg/s, respectively) were varied experimentally. The result showed that the highest efficiency was reached with mass flow rate 0.021 kg/s and space between tubes 5 cm.

Abstract

Abstrak Plastic deformation is metal forming process that resulted in material could not return as the initial condition both in its size and form. Plastic deformation process can be achieved by cold work i.e. metal forming processes below the cristalization temperature of the material. After cold work, the mechanical properties will change in its static, dynamic mechanical properties, and corrosive resistance. The experiment on the rate ofcorrosion was conducted in order to investigate the corrosion properties of the material. In this experiment, the setted up of deformation degree were 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, respectively. The material was low carbon steel AISI 3215. After treatment, each of samples was placed in corrosion mediums i.e. water, sea water, and air. The results showed that the average of corrosion rate in sea water increased from 0.0333 mm/year for the specimen with deformation degree 5% to 0.067 mm/year for specimen with deformation degree 20%. The rate of corrosion in water and air was lower than that of sea water.

Abstract

Frontal direction crash has become most serious cause in traffic accident. Based on the fact, this reaserch focused on the passenger movement in a frontal crash. The research was aimed to predict the direction of passenger movement and the benefit of using the seatbelt to decelerate the passenger movement in a frontal crash. The research was conducted by computer simulation by using Delphi 7. The inputs were vehicle velocity (80 km/h), mass of passenger (75 kg), and mass of vehicle (2000 kg). The results showed that in a frontal crash the deceleration of the passenger was smaller than that of the vehicle. The result of simulation showed that the force on passenger was 1.8352 N. If seatbelt tightness 1 N/cm2 was applied, the force on passenger decreased 468.56 N. In this case, the passenger still had relative velocity to the vehicle vrf = 1.75728 m/s and the force on passenger was 249.46 N. The seatbelt had important function to decelerate the passenger movement to the same deceleration of the vehicle during the frontal crash.
