Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of learning media using Android-based mobile learning media on virus material to improve student learning outcomes. This type of research is "research and development" with reference to the ADDIE model from the Robert Maribe Branch, namely: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Students in classes X4 and X8 at SMA N-1 MOJOTENGAH for the 2021-2022 academic year are the focus of this study. Data collection was carried out through interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The data obtained were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative test (N-gain). The results of the study showed: 1) mobile-learning media based on android on virus material as teaching material for class X was declared valid and feasible to use; 2) android-based mobile-learning media on virus material as teaching material for class X met very practical practicality criteria; and 3) mobile-learning media based on android on virus material can improve student learning outcomes in the moderate category.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic was caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus which resulted in changes in almost all aspects of people's lives in the world. One of them occurred in the field of education. In the education sector, the learning process takes place online and requires a variety of additional technologies to support the learning process. During the online learning process, teaching materials are also needed that are appropriate to the conditions that occur. The purpose of this research was to develop appropriate teaching materials for use during the Covid-19 pandemic. The type of research used is research development or Research and Development (R&D). The validation test results carried out by media experts were 94.53% and the material expert validation results were 90.43%. In small-scale product trials, the final test results showed that only 13.9% of students did not pass. In the practicality questionnaire responses, students showed that 19% of students considered this teaching material practical and 81% considered this teaching material very practical. Whereas in the large-scale trial conducted in 3 classes with a total of 108 students, the final test results showed that only 7.4% of students did not pass. In the response questionnaire given to the teacher, the percentage results were 96.35% which was included in the very valid category. In the student response questionnaire, 11% of students considered this teaching material practical and the remaining 89% of students considered this teaching material very practical. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that e-leaflet teaching materials using qr-codes on human excretory system material are feasible and practical to use in the online learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Good cognitive learning achievements and collaboration skills as one of the 21st-century skills are important for students to have. However, high school students have yet to achieve these abilities, therefore the right learning model is required to improve these two abilities. This classroom action research aims to improve students’ cognitive learning achievements and collaboration skills by implementing the PBL model on protist material. The study consists of two cycles, each contains of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages with 10th-grade students as participants. Cognitive learning data was obtained through pre-test and post-test, while collaboration skills data was collected through observation. The test refers to the six cognitive domains, and indicators of collaboration skills was adapted from Greenstein. There is a significant increase in cognitive learning achievements and collaboration skills. Overall, the PBL model is effective to improve collaboration skills and cognitive learning achievements. The results propose ideas for educators to implement PBL for teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

Misconception is an understanding that is not in accordance with the concept conveyed by experts. Misconceptions are still found in student learning outcomes on the Circulatory System material. The Concept Attainment Model is a teaching strategy that helps students strengthen their understanding of the concepts being studied. Learning independence is one of the factors that influence learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to increase student independence and learning outcomes as well as reduce students' misconceptions about the Circulatory System material. This research is a pre-experimental research with a one group pretest-posttest design. The data in this study were obtained through observation sheets, student response questionnaires, pretest-posttest, and student interviews. The results showed that prior to the implementation of the Concept Attainment learning model, students' learning independence was classified in the medium category. After the implementation of the Concept Attainment learning model, student learning independence increased, belonging to the high category. Student learning outcomes show that prior to the implementation of the Concept Attainment learning model, they had not reached the specified classical mastery. That is, student learning outcomes are low. After implementing the Concept Attainment learning model, student learning outcomes experienced a good increase in the medium and high N-Gain categories. The findings of students' misconceptions prior to the implementation of the Concept Attainment learning model were found in the concept of the mechanism of the clotting process, the link between blood type and blood transfusion, parts of the heart in cardiac anatomy, differences in the systemic and pulmonary circulatory systems, and disorders/abnormalities of the circulatory system. After implementing the Concept Attainment learning model, misconception were found in the concept of blood constituent components, the relationship between blood type and blood transfusion, and disorders/abnormalities of the circulatory system. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Concept Attainment learning model can increase student independence and learning outcomes and reduce student misconceptions.

Abstract

One of the demands of 21st-century learning is optimizing students' problem-solving abilities. The problem-solving ability of students at SMA Negeri 18 Medan is still low. One of the contributing factors to low problem-solving ability is the lack of application of learning devices and models that can activate students and are still teacher-centered. One learning model that can improve problem-solving skills is the guided discovery model. This study aims to analyze students' problem-solving abilities with the implementation of the guided discovery model, the implementation of guided discovery syntax in learning, and student responses to the guided discovery model on excretory system material. This type of research is quasi-experimental research with a pretest-posttest control group design. Sampling using random sampling technique, XI IPA 1 as guided discovery class and XI IPA 2 as direct instruction class. The instruments used consist of essay questions on problem-solving skills, syntax implementation observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The data obtained are first tabulated, searched for averages, and then analyzed by normality tests and independent sample t-tests. From the results of the independent sample t-test, a significance value of 0.000<0.05 was obtained, indicating that students' problem-solving abilities with guided discovery models and direct instruction models differed significantly. The results showed that the problem-solving ability of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 18 Medan who were taught using the guided discovery model was very high (82.69), the implementation of the guided discovery model syntax with a percentage of 99%, and student responses to learning showed a positive response. Based on the results of the study, the guided discovery model is very appropriate to be used in training the problem-solving ability of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 18 Medan on excretory system material.
