Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between variables, namely the relationship between self awareness symbolic and anxiety speaking to college students of Biology Education Institute of Islamic Religion (IAIN) Kerinci. In this study are self awareness symbolic (X) and anxiety speaking (Y). This research is a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of this study was all 7 semester college students of Biology Education Institute of Islamic Religion (IAIN) Kerinci as many as 110 college students. The sample of this study was 90 college student who were determined through the Slovin formula technique with a significance level of 5%. The data in this study are data from the psychological scale of self awareness symbolic and the psychological scale of anxiety speaking is to use a Likert scale consisting of 25 statements for self awareness symbolic and 35 statements for anxiety speaking. The data analysis technique used is parametric statistics of Pearson Product Moment. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between self awareness symbolic and anxiety speaking. From the results of the comparison between sig and α values, obtained: Sig = 0,0000 < α = 0,05 so that the decision H1 is received, which is concluded that there is a relationship between self awareness symbolic and anxiety speaking. The relationship (correlation) between self awareness symbolic (X) and anxiety speaking (Y) very strong and positive, that is 0,870. Meaning that the higher the self awareness symbolic, the higher the anxiety of speaking. Vice versa, the lower the self awareness symbolic, the lower the anxiety of speaking.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a suitable test instrument to measure the critical thinking skills of high school students on the material of the human excretory system. The research method used, namely Research and Development (R&D). The model used in developing this instrument was adapted from the stages according to Sugiyono (2015) with ten stages, namely potential and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, design revision, smallscale test, product revision I, large-scale test, product revision. II, and final product review. The test subjects in this study were students of class XI MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Juwana. Data collection techniques using tests and questionnaires. The test instrument refers to the Facione indicators (interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation and analysis). self- regulation ) in the form of a description of 18 items to measure students' critical thinking skills, while a questionnaire was used to collect data from students' responses to the instruments that had been prepared. Student questionnaires are made using a scale Likert . Analysis of the data used for the test in the form of tests of validity, reliability, level of difficulty, and distinguishing power using the SPSS program version 20. Based on the results of the small-scale test of 18 questions, as many as 3 items are not valid so that improvements must be made. Students' critical thinking skills on the small-scale test are included in the high category with a percentage of 48.5%. In the large-scale test, 18 items have been declared valid and feasible to use and 52.3% of students' critical thinking skills are included in the high category. The conclusion of the research is that the instrument is declared valid and feasible to use based on expert validation, item analysis and field trials and the level of critical thinking skills of SMA Negeri 1 Juwana students is in the high category.
The Arthropoda Diversity Booklet as a Learning Resource for Biodiversity Materials

Abstract

The development of science and technology has a great influence in the world of education. Educators are required to be able to increase innovation in the learning process, one of which is the use and selection of effective and efficient media. Based on an interview with a Biology teacher at Pangudi Luhur Santo Yosef High School Surakarta, learning during the pandemic has not been able to run optimally due to various obstacles such as the mindset of students towards material concepts and independence for learning. This study aims to analyze the validity, response, and readability of the Arthropod Diversity booklet product of the Bengawan Solo River in the Sukoharjo Regency. The collection of arthropod specimens from the Bengawan Solo River was carried out in Sukoharjo Regency using purposive sampling technique. The booklet is made based on the results of species collection using the Research and Development (RnD) method. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews, questionnaires, and tests in the form of a gap test. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics with quantitative and qualitative data. The results showed that the arthropod diversity booklet on biodiversity material was very feasible to use with a percentage of 93.75% in the validity test by media experts and 83.33% by material experts. The Bengawan Solo River arthropod diversity booklet was also considered very well to use with a percentage of 88.12% in the response test by teachers and 88.389% by students. In addition, based on the readability test conducted by the students, it showed that 75% of the students had very good understanding of the contents of the booklet and 85.71% of the students were independent readers who could understand the contents of the booklet without any educational interaction. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that the Bengawan Solo River arthropod diversity booklet is valid and can be used in learning on biodiversity material as a companion book or learning supplement.
The Vertebrate Tissue Atlas As A Teaching Material Supplement to Improve Students' Self-Regulated Learning in SHS

Abstract

The report on the results of the national exam on the website of the ministry of education and culture shows that the percentage of students who answered correctly on the matter of animal tissue and organ material at SMA Negeri 4 Pekalongan in 2019 was 22.62%, in 2018 it was 29.79%, in 2017 it was 32, 56%, and in 2016 it was 59.86%. The data shows a decrease every year and is still relatively low when compared to other materials. Preliminary observation data conducted on 70 students using questionnaires showed that 85.71% of students experienced problems with online learning and 90% of students felt bored with online learning. In addition, data also obtained that 67.14% of students find it difficult to learn biology, 55.71% of students feel that the teaching materials used are not sufficient for learning, and 41.42% of students feel that the teaching materials used are not interesting. Preliminary interview data with biology teachers show that the material that is difficult to teach in online learning is material that contains practical activities. Animal tissues and organs material is included as material for practical activities. This study aims to develop an atlas of vertebrate tissues as a supplement to teaching materials that have been tested for feasibility (materials, media, and language) and can improve students' self-regulated learning in senior high school. The results showed that the vertebrate tissue atlas as a supplement for teaching materials that were developed met the eligibility standards according to the material expert validator, media expert validator, biology teacher, and the responses of 12 students with very decent criteria. In addition, the vertebrate tissues atlas as a supplement to teaching materials can also improve students' self-regulated learning in high school. This is indicated by the percentage of students with high N-gain criteria of 54%, moderate criteria of 4%, and low criteria of 40%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics, analyze the feasibility, and analyze the improvement of students critical thinking ability using e-module based on socio-scientific issues human reproductive system in learning. This research was carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Demak in the even semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The type of research is research and development (RnD) using a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were XI MIPA 9 to obtain data on student responses to the e-module, and XI MIPA 6 to obtain data on critical thinking ability using pretest-posttest description questions. Sampling using purposive sampling method. The results showed that the characteristics contained in the e-module based on the experts assessement were based on socio-scientific issues, self-instruction, self-contained, adaptive, user friendly, and attractive appearance. The feasibility of material experts is 98.9% with very feasible criteria, media experts is 97.8% with very feasible criteria. The student response to the e-module is 90.9% with very good criteria, the teacher's response is 95.4% with very good criteria. The average of the pretest-posttest of students critical thinking ability was analyzed by n-gain and obtained a score of 0.62 with medium criteria. The conclusion of this research is the development of e-module based on socio-scientific issues human reproductive system material is feasible and effective to improve critical thinking ability of class XI students in SMA Negeri 1 Demak.
The Implementation of Multiple Representation-Based Fungi E-module on Students' Cognitive Learning Outcomes and Writing Communication Skills

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia in 2020, the teaching and learning process has been carried out through the online method. Some of the obstacles to implementing online learning are that teachers cannot deliver the material directly, there is limited time for online learning, and the lack of teaching materials that can be used to accompany students' independent learning from home. E-modules are complete teaching materials with electronic formats that are prepared with the aim of assisting students' independent learning. Meanwhile, multiple representations are an approach to conveying material concepts in various forms of representation to help students understand the material presented. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the application of multiple representation-based fungi e-module in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes and writing communication skills. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Tayu in the odd semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The method in this study is a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The research sample was obtained by purposive sampling technique, namely class XI MIPA 3 as the experimental class and class XI MIPA 4 as the control class. The research data were obtained from pretest, posttest, investigation reports, and student self-reflection questionnaires. The results showed that there was an increase in cognitive learning outcomes with the acquisition of an average N-gain score of 0.56 (56.08%) in the medium category in the experimental class and 0.34 (34.50%) in the control class with the medium category. In the students' written communication skills which were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney test, the results of the Asymp score were obtained. Sig. (2-tailed) <0.05, i.e. 0.026, which means that there is a significant difference between the written communication skills of the experimental class students and the control class. Student self-reflection questionnaire used as supporting data showed that there were differences in the percentage results in several statements, especially on data presentation indicators. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of the multiple representation-based fungi e-module is effective for improving cognitive learning outcomes and there are differences in students' writing communication skills.

Abstract

Ideal condition of education field occurs when students' science and reading literacy fulfill the average international standards such as PISA and TIMSS. According to the 2018 OECD report, Indonesian students' science and reading literacy are at the lowest rank. Improvement of the assessment system from student evaluation using UN items to National Assessment using Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) items has been attempted by the government, which can be accessed through the PUSMENJAR and PUSMENDIK web pages. Analysis of AKM simulation items is needed in an effort to review the feasibility of items and students' abilities in information text literacy. The purpose of the study was to analyze the characteristics of AKM items tested based on the review of the domains of science and reading literacy PISA qualitatively, to analyze the characteristics of AKM items tested in measuring student learning outcomes related to the literacy of information text on biology subject quantitatively, and to analyze students' abilities related to the literacy of information text based on the results of the AKM simulation test which was tested quantitatively. Type of research used is mixed method research with the research design is concurrent embedded design. The research respondents were 75 students of class X at SMA Islam Sultan Agung 1, SMA Kesatrian 2, SMA Teuku Umar, SMA Negeri 10 Semarang, and SMA Negeri 12 Semarang. Research instruments were 15 items of AKM level 5 biology simulation items with supporting data for student and teacher response questionnaires. For the quantitative analysis, the validity was estimated with the fulfillment of the criteria, includes MNSQ, ZSTD, and Pt Measure Corr outfit values. Determination of the item difficulty level and student ability level categories were based on the logit value obtained from the standard deviation. The qualitative analysis includes document study using the AKM simulation items along with the science and reading literacy framework PISA 2018. The results showed that the AKM simulation items tested had reached the entire domain of science and reading literacy PISA, but the items did not contain low and moderate aspects of the cognitive demands domain. Based on the item characteristic analysis using MINISTEP, for the item validity that S1, S2, S3 and S4 are categorized as valid, S5, S6, S7, S8, S9, S10, S11, S14, and S15 are categorized as valid with revisions, and S13 are categorized as discarded item. AKM simulation items tested had a test reliability of 0,81 with a good category. There are 2 items in the very difficult category, 4 items in the difficult category, 6 items in the medium category, and 3 items in the easy category. Person characteristic analysis in the form of the ability level of 75 students as respondents which had high ability to solve AKM simulation items for all types of item tested.
Development of Mushroom E-Brochure as a Learning Resource for Class X to Improve Representation Ability

Abstract

Result of observations and interviews with class X biology teachers at SMA Institut Semarang, mushroom material is one of the materials that are quite difficult, complex and abstract for students to learn and understand because mushroom material has scientific names that students must understand, like divisions that are almost the same shape. In terms of representation ability, students still struggle to draw mushrooms, so they cannot distinguish mushrooms according to their division. This study aims to develop, test the feasibility and improve students' representational abilities by using e-brochures as a learning resource. This study is a Research and Development (R&D) and was tested using a one-shot case study design. The research goes through the stages of identifying potentials and problems, collecting data, designing products, expert validation, product revisions, small-scale trials, revisions, and large-scale trials so that the final product is produced. The results showed that the e-brochure was feasible to use with a percentage of material eligibility of 77.5%, media eligibility of 78.5% with appropriate criteria, and product responses of 91.55% with very legible standards. The ability of representation can be seen with the results of the t-test 0.000 <0.05 using SPSS, so it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the results of the pre-test and post-test. The increase in N-gain of pre-test and post-test data was obtained by 70% with high criteria. Based on these results, it can be concluded e-brochure as a learning resource for class X to improve representation ability is feasible to use, and the response of e-brochure is very legible. Suggestions for further research are the development of mushroom e-brochures as a learning resource for class X to improve representation skills associated with other materials.
Development of E-Quiz Based on Liveworksheets for Biodiversity Topic to Train Higher Order Thinking Skills

Abstract

The research objective was to develop a liveworksheets-based E-Quiz for biodiversity topic to train higher order thinking skills that are both theoretically and empirically valid, reliable, and practically. This study used a 4D model. Theoretical validation was evaluated used the question instrumens, and E-Quiz. The limited trial was carried out by involved 20 10th grade students. The analysis of the empirical validity test used product-moment analysis, reliability test used Cronbach Alpha analysis. The practicality of E-Quiz media was measured used student response questionnaire. Practicality data were analyzed descriptiptively quantitatively. The result of theoretical validation analysis showed that questions developed were very valid with percentage of 99.84% and liveworkhseets-based E-Quiz was declared very valid with percentage 87.60%. The empirical validity test showed that in 1 questions set there were 9 questions declared valid. The reliability test showed that questions developed was declared reliable with high correlation coefficient of 0.717. The practicality test showed that liveworksheets-based E-Quiz was very practical category with percentage 0f 99.17%. Thus, it can be concluded than the E-Quiz based on liveworksheets for biodiversity topic that can be used to train students’ higher order thinking skills based on theoretical validity, empirical validity, reliability, and practicality.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of validity of teaching material supplements on the subject of the digestive system. This type of research is research and development (R&D) using the ADDIE model but modified only to the development stage. The results showed that the results of the validation of teaching material supplements, content validation, were included in the very valid category with a percentage of 9o% and the results of construct validation showed that teaching material supplements were also included in the very valid category, with a percentage of 94%. Thus the teaching material supplement is included in the very valid category and can be used as a supplement to the digestive system teaching material.
