Abstract

Strategy of Subak Development into an Agribusiness-Oriented Institution in Badung Regency (The Case of Subak Sengempel, Bongkasa Village,Abiansemal District) Agricultural development is done through an approach of agribusiness system which constitutes the whole subsystems of farming which are interrelated, interdependent and mutually influential. The aim of this study was to formulate strategies of Subak development into an agribusiness-oriented institution. This research was conducted in Subak Sengempel, Abiansemal District Badung regency. This study used 16 respondents (14 internal respondents and two external respondents) by means of purposive sampling. Data analysis method used was descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative method in order to obtain alternative strategies by using SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat). The results showed that Sengempel Subak position was in cell one, Growth position. This growth position stated that Subak Sengempel was currently experiencing growth. Based on the SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) analysis, six alternative strategies can be recommended. The prioritized alternative strategy was the strategy of Subak development into an agribusiness-oriented institution. This Subak development into agribusiness-oriented institution was expected to become an independent and profit-oriented organization, able to survive and compete in the era of modernization. The recommended suggestion in this research is the development of Subak into an agribusiness-oriented institution is very possible with a real program. It can promote farmers’ independence, coordination with relevant parties, and create a pilot area of agribusiness that could be a motivation and foster the spirit of farmers in developing Subak into to an agribusiness-oriented institution.

Abstract

Implementation of Rice Farming Ritual at Subak of Urban and Rural Areas Case: Subak Ayung at BudukVillage Mengwi District and Subak Sulangai at Sulangai Village District of Petang Badung RegencyCultural diversity provides vivid colors in every area as a tradition that characterizes each tribe in Indonesia. Bali historically has had a tradition, culture, and religious commitment in the form of an organization called Subak. The belief of Subak members in conceiving land as Mother Nature, water as a symbol of Lord Vishnu, and rice as Goddess Sri strengthens the existence of Hinduism-based Subak cultural wisdom. Implementation of ritual activities in the paddy rice farming in Subak of urban and rural areas is not known with certainty. Based on these descriptions, it is interesting to note the implementation and ritual differences of rice farming of Subak in urban and rural areas. The aim of research was to determine the implementation and ritual differences of rice farming on the Subak Ayung and Subak Sulangai. The sampling method was done by using quota sampling, each with 50 respondents. The key informants were pekaseh (Subak head) and management of Subak Ayung and Subak Sulangai. Implementation of ritual activities in paddy rice farming in Subak near urban areas the case of Subak Ayung with the average achievement, the percentage score of 66.50% in the medium category and Subak Sulangai amounted to 72.85% belonging to the frequent/ good category. Subak of rural areas tended to have better ritual implementation compared with Subak of urban areas by a margin of 6.35%. Based on the results of the study, it is expected that Subak Ayung and Subak Sulangai members are more frequent / better to perform rituals of paddy rice farming so as to preserve the culture of Subak.

Abstract

The Behavior of Subak’s Members in the Use of Organic Fertilizer on Rice Paddy Cultivation (A Case Study of Subak Dukuh, Kapal Village, Mengwi Sub-District of Badung Regency) The negative impact of consuming food containing excess of chemical residues has become the health issues lately. Environmental and food safety issues led to a lifestyle trend of going back to nature. Some individuals, groups, and organizations initiated the movement of environmentally friendly farming system namely organic farming. Seeing this condition, the researchers were interested in conducting research concerning the behavior of Subak’s members in the use of organic fertilizers in the cultivation of rice paddy. This research was conducted in Subak Dukuh which is located in the village of Kapal, Mengwi, Badung Regency. The selection of this region as the research location was done purposively. The populations of this research were members of Subak Dukuh totaling of 162 people. Determination of the sample size in this study using the formula of solvin so that the number of respondents taken were 35 people. The result shows that the level of knowledge of farmers on organic fertilizers was categorized as good achieving a score of 71.20 percent. But the behavior of farmers towards organic fertilizer was classified in the medium category with an average score of 66.20 percent. On the application of organic fertilizers, the farmers was in medium category with score of 63.80 percent. Based on the research results, it is suggested to the members of Subak as program implementers to apply or utilize the technology in the agricultural sector introduced by the extension workers, because before trying a new technology that given by the extension workers, farmers did not know whether the technology is good or not to be applied to their rice fields.

Abstract

Implementation of the Six Functions of Subak in the Urban Areas (The Case of Subak Padanggalak in East Denpasar District, City of Denpasar)With the rapid development of time, the existence of Subak is increasingly threatened due to the transfer of wetland function in urban areas where there are developments outside the agricultural sector. This research was conducted at Padanggalak Subak, East Denpasar District, City of Denpasar. The aim of this study was to determine the implementation of the six functions of Subak seen from (1) the activities of religious ceremonies, (2) the search and distribution of irrigation water, (3) the operation and maintenance of irrigation networks, (4) resources mobilization, (5) the handling of conflicts, and (6) adoption of innovations. This research used descriptive qualitative data. The results showed that the implementation of the six functions of Subak in Padanggalak had been duly made. The implementation was conducted in the religious ceremony activities performed consistently, sharing and distribution of irrigation water which was conducted in a fair way, operation and maintenance of irrigation networks, and the mobilization of resources done by means of mutual cooperation and assistance from the government, conflict handling was done amicably, and the adoption of innovations had been applied in Subak Padanggalak. It is suggested the implementation of the six functions of Subak should be maintained and even optimized to achieve a more optimal goal.

Abstract

Cashew Nut Product Quality Control In PT East Indo Fair Trading, Karangasem Regency, Bali ProvincePT East Indo Fair Trading is one of cashew nut manufacturing company in Bali. Company has been applied management quality in accordance guidelines standard prevailing, but the fact remains found damage to products. The purpose of research to know processing the cashew nut, supervise the quality uses statistics method and total cost for quality control steady. Based on the research done, there are 11 stages production processed of cashew nut. Quality control analysis include: quality control the beginning until the end of the production process, quality control using controlled map analysis these show that the process is controllable, and quality control using cause and effect diagram analysis that show the source of the product’s damage is affected by raw material, human resources, and mechanism. Based on the analysis on total quality cost, actual quality cost the spend by the company are Rp 214.583.333,00 with the total of damage around 8.460 kilograms, and total quality cost over optimum quality are Rp 190.673.096,00 with the total of optimum damage around 5.153,33 kilograms, with the difference of streamlined cost are Rp 23.910.237,00 and the extent of damage differences over the cashew nut products are 3.306,67 kilograms. The recommended suggestion is the company better use statistic quality control method and increase the procedure also the appropriate working method.
