Abstract

Food waste has become an increasingly urgent global issue, spurring the rise of community-based ecological initiatives, particularly those driven by youth. In Lampung Province, the Ruang Pangan Community has emerged as a key actor in the social food movement, combining surplus food redistribution, public education, and policy advocacy through a multi-level approach. This study explores the dynamics of the Ruang Pangan movement using New Social Movement (NSM) theory, with a focus on collective identity formation and digital activism in the context of food waste governance. Employing a qualitative methodology, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Ruang Pangan seeks to build a collective identity under the label Food Heroes, broaden participation via digital platforms, and foster cross-sector collaboration within the local food ecosystem. However, the movement remains largely rooted in volunteerism, resulting in an internally focused collective identity that has yet to be fully expressed in the public sphere. Volunteer engagement is primarily motivated by personal moral concerns or social networking goals, rather than political awareness of structural inequalities in the food system. Furthermore, the movement faces critical challenges, including limited funding, institutional inertia, and low levels of broader public engagement. This study contributes to the theoretical discourse on contemporary social movements by highlighting the interplay between moral action and structural critique. It also offers practical insights for developing more inclusive and participatory food waste management strategies at the local level.

Abstract

This community service aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of the residents of Pantai Kunyit, Bandar Lampung City, as active subjects in tsunami disaster mitigation efforts. This coastal area is highly vulnerable, yet it faces major challenges regarding low preparedness, lack of rapid response to early warnings, and an unsustainable mitigation culture. The implementation methods included short interviews for initial knowledge mapping, screening of interactive educational videos on tsunami mechanisms and self-rescue procedures, and quantitative evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments. This initiative successfully engaged the active participation of residents, community leaders, and local government. The results demonstrated a significant increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, indicating an enhanced public understanding of basic tsunami concepts, natural warning signs, and evacuation routes/shelters. Although community knowledge improved, fostering deeply rooted safety behaviors still requires consistent follow-up and commitment from various stakeholders, including the local government. This program is expected to serve as an initial catalyst to encourage multi-stakeholder collaboration towards creating a resilient and tsunami-prepared community in Pantai Kunyit.

Abstract

ABSTRACT West Lampung Regency faces various serious environmental problems, such as deforestation, water pollution, and suboptimal waste management. Although the environmental quality index of West Lampung Regency shows an improving trend, there are still many challenges that need to be overcome, especially in increasing public awareness and participation, particularly among students, in preserving the environment. Data from the Environmental Agency indicates that the level of environmental damage remains quite high, requiring the active involvement of the younger generation to create sustainable change. The Green Student Program: Environmental Cadres for a Sustainable Future aims to empower students in West Lampung Regency as agents of environmental change. The methods used in this program include school-based training, environmental awareness campaigns, and concrete actions such as reforestation and waste management in school environments. These activities are carried out in several schools located in areas prone to environmental damage, involving teachers, students, and the surrounding community in every stage of the program. The results of the activities show an increase in participants' knowledge of environmental management concepts and practices, although a comprehensive change in public ecological awareness cannot be achieved in a short period of time. This is due to the need for the involvement of key actors such as the government and other relevant parties who consistently provide ongoing guidance. This community service program is expected to be an initial trigger that encourages multi-stakeholder collaboration to create environmentally friendly behavioral and cultural changes in the community. Keywords: Green students, student empowerment, education, environmental awareness.
