Abstract

Breastfeeding problems that often arise in breastfeeding mothers are breast engorgement and even inflammation (mastitis). One effort to prevent breast engorgement is breast care. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cabbage leaf compresses on reducing the intensity of mastitis pain in breastfeeding mothers at the Rosita Independent Midwife Practice in Pekanbaru City. This observational analytical study with a quantitative design was conducted from November 2024 to September 2025 at the Rosita Independent Midwife Practice in Pekanbaru. The results. Meanwhile, based on the Wilxocon Test, the results of the intensity of breast pain before the management of cabbage leaf compresses were most painful as many as 15 respondents (100%) and the intensity of breast pain after the management of cabbage leaf compresses was most painful as many as 13 respondents (86.7%) with a p value of 0.000 with a significant difference for the scale of breast pain intensity before and after being given cabbage compress intervention with a p value of 0.000. Based on the results of the statistical test, a value of 0.000 was obtained (p value <α 0.05) so Ha was accepted, meaning there was a difference before and after the cold cabbage leaf compress intervention on the intensity of pain felt by postpartum mothers with an average change to a scale of 1 (no pain)

Abstract

Breast milk is the best nutrient for the growth and development of infants. The achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia (74.5%) is still far from the national target of 80%. One of the contributing factors is less milk production. Oketani massage makes the breasts softer, the areolas and nipples more elastic, making it easier for the baby to suckle. Education can increase knowledge and abilities and skills of mothers. Oketani massage and breastfeeding education can help increase milk production.Objective : Proving the effect of oketani massage intervention and breastfeeding education on breastfeeding self-efficacy in postpartum mothers Method : Quasy experiment with Design Pretest and Posttest With Group control. The sample consisted of 34 postpartum mothers, each group consisting of 17 respondents. The intervention group was given oketani massage and breastfeeding education while the control group was given health education about breastfeeding for 7 days. The data collected is breast-feeding self-efficacy filling out questionnaires. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney, Independent T-Test.Results : The mean difference in pre-post breastfeeding self-efficacy in the intervention group was 5.59 and -0.82 in the control group (p value 0.000).Conclusion : Giving oketani massage and breastfeeding education can increase breastfeeding self-efficacy in postpartum mothers.Keywords : Breastfeeding Self Efficacy, Breastfeeding Education, Oketani Massage, Postpartum Mother
