Abstract

Sektor pertanian adalah bagian dari salah satu sektor penting dalam perekonomian  yang harus dikelola secara berkelanjutan untuk menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem. Menggunakan pupuk kimia yang berlebihan dalam waktu yang lama akan merusak struktur tanah dan menjadi sumber pencemaran lingkungan sehingga dibutuhkan solusi pupuk yang ramah lingkungan salah satunya adalah pupuk kompos yang bersumber dari feses kambing. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Desa Sungai Durian Kecamatan Padang Bolak Kabupaten Padang Lawas Utara Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Sebagian besar penduduk Desa Sungai Durian bermata pencaharian di bidang pertanian dan perkebunan dengan komoditas utama kelapa sawit dan karet. Rata-rata petani memiliki kambing sebanyak 3-5 ekor atau lebih dan cenderung menggunakan langsung feses kambing sebagai pupuk tanpa dilakukan pengolahan terlebih dahulu, sehingga perlu adanya pelatihan tentang pengolahan feses kambing menjadi pupuk kompos dengan metode fermentasi atau pengomposan. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini antara lain melakukan survei lokasi kegiatan, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) dan implementasi kegiatan dengan praktik secara langsung tahapan cara mengolah feses kambing menjadi pupuk kompos. Peserta pelatihan yang hadir sangat antusisas mengikuti kegiatan hingga selesai. Masyarakat melihat secara langsung mulai dari persiapan bahan pengurai, pembuatan pupuk organik hingga pengemasan. Pelatihan pupuk kompos ini bertujuan memberikan ilmu pengetahuan kepada kelompok tani dan masyarakat agar dapat menerapkannya pada lahan pertanian atau perkebunan yang dimiliki. Sehingga dapat mengurangi penggunaan pupuk kimia, mengatasi pencemaran lingkungan serta mendukung kegiatan pertanian berkelanjutan

Abstract

Ultisol soil has limited fertility and low water-holding capacity, making it susceptible to drought stress in soybean cultivation. The application of kascing organic fertilizer has the potential to improve the soil's physical and chemical properties and enhance the plants' tolerance to water stress. This study aims to analyze the effect of kascing doses on soybean growth and yield under varying levels of drought stress in Ultisol soil. The study used a two-factor factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. The first factor was cassava dosage (0, 5, and 10 tons ha⁻¹) and the second factor was drought stress levels (100%, 75%, and 50% of field capacity). Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, number of pods per plant, seed weight per plant, seed yield per hectare, and soil organic matter content. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and the 5% LSD test. Research results show that the application of composting increases soybean growth and yield significantly. Drought stress reduces productivity, but the application of composting can mitigate the negative effects of drought. The combination of 10 tons ha⁻¹ of composting at 75% field capacity produced the highest productivity of 3.42 tons ha⁻¹.

Abstract

Operating a livestock business with a substantial herd size requires sound, professional planning and management—particularly regarding initial capital, daily operating costs, husbandry practices, product marketing, and accurate revenue and profit calculations. Challenges faced by small-to-medium-scale farmers include fluctuating feed prices (which account for 60–70% of total production costs), working capital availability, limited market access, and a lack of knowledge regarding business feasibility analysis. This study employs a quantitative descriptive method to provide a comprehensive overview of production cost components, revenue levels, and profitability in a household-scale free-range chicken farming business. Purposive sampling—a method of deliberately selecting a sample based on specific criteria established by the researcher—was utilized. The study relies on both primary and secondary data. The findings indicate that the "Ternak Ceria" free-range chicken business is viable for operation and expansion based on the following: (1) an R/C Ratio of 1.50, indicating efficient cost utilization; (2) a B/C Ratio of 0.50, indicating a profitable return; (3) a Unit Break-Even Point (BEP) of 67 birds—lower than the actual production capacity of 100 birds—providing a 33% margin of safety; (4) a Price BEP of Rp33,300, which is well below the actual selling price (Rp50,000), offering a high price margin of safety; and (5) a Margin of Safety of 33%, demonstrating the business's resilience against market fluctuations and sales declines.
