Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality of questions in the Mathematics Olympiad in the 2025 Geometric Competition at STAIN Mandailing Natal. The focus of the study was on ten multiple-choice questions used in the competition. This study used a quantitative approach with descriptive analysis. The research data came from the answer sheets of 64 participants who were students participating in the competition. The data were analyzed using classical statistics, including validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminating power, and distractor effectiveness tests. The results of the analysis showed that 60% of the questions were in the valid category. The reliability test results showed that the questions had not reached the threshold set for the reliable category. The difficulty level results showed that 100% of the questions were in the difficult category, requiring high ability from participants. The discriminating power results showed that many questions were in the weak and moderate categories. Meanwhile, the distractor analysis results showed that 87.5% of the distractors functioned well. This study shows that the quality of the questions in the 2025 Geometric Competition still needs improvement. The questions need to be reviewed in order to assess the mathematical abilities of the participants more accurately.

Abstract

Problems in academic writing among postgraduate students are still frequently found, particularly related to inaccurate citations, inconsistent bibliographies, and limited use of reference management applications. This community service program aimed to improve postgraduate students’ understanding and skills in using reference management applications to support systematic and academically appropriate scientific writing at UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addari Padangsidimpuan. The program was conducted through training sessions and hands-on practice using Zotero and Mendeley applications involving 65 participants, consisting of 45 students from the Primary Education Study Program and 20 students from the Mathematics Education Study Program. Program evaluation was carried out through observation and post-training questionnaires. The results showed that 42 participants (65%) rated the quality of material delivery as very good, while 43 participants (66%) reported a very high level of understanding regarding the use of reference management applications. Participants were also able to install the applications, manage references, and apply automatic and manual citation techniques correctly. The program proved effective in improving students’ academic literacy and reference management skills, thereby supporting the enhancement of scientific writing quality and strengthening an orderly and integrity-based academic culture.

Abstract

This study aims to map publication trends and intellectual structure of literature on play integration in early childhood mathematics education from 2016 to 2025. A bibliometric approach was applied to data from Scopus using VOSviewer, Biblioshiny, and Microsoft Excel. Results show progressive publication growth with significant acceleration post-2022, indicating a shift from niche to mainstream research. Early Childhood Research Quarterly and Journal of Experimental Child Psychology emerged as the most dominant sources. The most productive author was Ramani G.B. (7 documents), followed by Hu B.Y. and Li L. (6 documents each). The most prolific institutions were University of California (13 documents), University of Pittsburgh, and University of Toronto (12 documents each). The United States dominated country contributions, followed by Canada, China, and Sweden. Co-occurrence keyword analysis revealed a thematic shift toward experimental approaches linking play with cognitive constructs such as numeracy, executive function, and school readiness. These findings confirm the field's maturation while highlighting representation gaps from developing countries, providing strategic direction for developing evidence-based and inclusive play-based mathematics learning research and practice.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aims to improve students' academic literacy through training in the use of reference managers and digital literature mapping applications. Methodology: The method used in this community service was the ABCD model, conducted online via the Zoom Meeting Cloud platform, with 100 students from various study programs at STAIN Mandailing Natal participating. The activity included preparation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. Results: The results of the activity showed that students gained increased understanding and skills in using reference manager applications, and were able to utilize Scispace and Vosviewer to enrich their research insights. Furthermore, participants stated that this training was very useful in preparing scientific papers that were of higher quality, systematic, and met academic standards. Conclusions: This community service training proved relevant and effective, improving academic understanding, practical skills, and students’ readiness for career development and further academic study optimally overall. Limitations: This community service activity has several limitations, including its online implementation, large participant numbers, limited internet access, and short-term evaluations that have not yet measured long-term impacts on students’ scientific work. Contributions: This community service activity strengthens students’ academic literacy and research skills, especially in using reference managers and digital literature mapping tools to produce systematic scientific work at STAIN Mandailing Natal. It enhances understanding of academic writing, ethics, information management, and improves citation accuracy, research efficiency, and institutional research quality overall.
