Abstract

The preconception period is a crucial phase in preparing for a healthy pregnancy, as women’s physical, mental, and reproductive health conditions before conception greatly influence pregnancy outcomes and infant health. However, reproductive health literacy among prospective brides and grooms at the Religious Affairs Office (KUA) of Sidoarjo District remains low, while the existing educational process is still dominated by limited face-to-face counseling and less engaging printed materials. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to improve reproductive health literacy among prospective brides and grooms through the implementation of a web-based preconception education application. The program applied a community-based education approach through interactive lectures, application demonstrations, discussions, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test. The educational materials covered basic concepts of preconception care, premarital nutrition, risk factor detection, pre-pregnancy health screening, and healthy pregnancy planning. The activity was conducted on April 15, 2026, at KUA Sidoarjo District and involved 30 participants. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the average pre-test score rising from 36.33 to 90.83 in the post-test, indicating an average improvement of 54.50 points. The mean N-Gain score was 0.848, which falls into the high category. In addition, the distribution of knowledge levels changed substantially: all participants were initially in the poor category during pre-test, while after the intervention, 96.7% were in the good category and 3.3% in the fair category. This program demonstrates that the web-based preconception education application is effective in improving the knowledge and reproductive health literacy of prospective brides and grooms. The activity also contributes to supporting couples’ readiness for family life and healthy pregnancy planning.

Abstract

The first 1,000 days of life is a critical period that determines the quality of child health, growth, and development; therefore, maternal readiness to care for a newborn should be prepared during pregnancy. Anxiety during pregnancy and limited family support may reduce maternal preparedness for newborn care. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge of pregnant women and their husbands regarding signs of anxiety and preparation for newborn care to optimize the first 1,000 days of life. The program employed an educational and participatory mentoring approach involving 26 pregnant women in the second and third trimesters and their husbands in Belimbing Sari Village, Sooko District, Mojokerto, from March to April 2026. Activities included pretest assessment, health education sessions, interactive discussions, direct assistance, and post-test evaluation. The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased from 34.6 in the pretest to 90.38 in the post-test. The proportion of respondents with good knowledge also increased from 15.4% to 88.5%. Wilcoxon signed-rank test demonstrated a statistically significant difference before and after the intervention (p=0.000; p<0.05). This program was effective in improving maternal knowledge and readiness for newborn care. Similar educational programs should be implemented continuously with family involvement to support maternal and infant health outcomes.

Abstract

Abstract Infertility remains a significant reproductive health issue that can affect the physical, psychological, and social well-being of couples. One of the contributing factors is inadequate knowledge and preparedness prior to pregnancy. Efforts to improve readiness can be carried out through preconception health education provided to prospective couples. This study aimed to analyze the effect of health education on infertility prevention toward knowledge and pregnancy readiness among prospective brides. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. The sample consisted of 40 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The intervention was delivered through health education sessions, and data were collected using structured questionnaires administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with the majority of respondents initially categorized as having moderate knowledge (70%) shifting to good knowledge (90%) after the intervention. Pregnancy readiness also improved, with respondents categorized as not ready (70%) decreasing and those categorized as ready increasing to 65%. Statistical analysis indicated a p-value of <0.05, demonstrating a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention outcomes..
