Abstract

This study aims to analyse the negative impact of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) on Generation Z's mental resilience and the role of the teachings of the Kitab Kuning in building psychological resilience in the digital age. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research was conducted through unstructured interviews, participant observation, and documents related to the Kitab Kuning, students, teachers, and administrators at the Ma’had of the State Islamic University Walisongo (UIN Walisongo). The data were analysed using the Miles and Huberman model, which involves data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions, and verification. The findings indicate that FOMO triggers anxiety, chronic stress, concentration difficulties, reduced self-esteem, and mild depressive symptoms due to social media pressure and unhealthy self-comparison. Additionally, values from the Kitab Kuning—such as contentment (qana’ah), tawakkal (religious commitment), zuhd (asceticism), and muraqabah (compassion)—play a role in supporting spiritual mechanisms to address FOMO, helping maintain inner peace and reduce reliance on external validation. This study makes a positive contribution and can serve as a reference for other Islamic boarding schools. The study is limited by its focus on a single boarding school, so the findings cannot be generalised to other boarding schools that may have different characteristics, backgrounds, or educational systems.

Abstract

This article examine tions of their Muslim colleagues in elementary schools as a reflection of the values of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in building a harmonious and inclusive educational environment. This qualitative research, using a case study approach, used interviews with a Catholic teacher to understand forms of tolerant attitudes such as greeting Eid al-Fitr greetings, participating in halal bihalal (gatherings), and involvement in interfaith activities. The results indicate that Islamic Religious Education (PAI) values, such as brotherhood, compassion, mutual respect, and peace, are reflected in the behavior of teachers who serve as role models for students. Factors supporting tolerant attitudes include teacher role models, understanding of tolerance values, and emotional maturity and empathy. This research confirms that education plays a crucial role in enhancing humanitarian values and tolerance amidst diversity, supporting the creation of a harmonious society in accordance with the spirit of Indonesian diversity.

Abstract

Purpose – Traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are required to adapt to educational modernization, technological advancement, and changing societal needs while preserving their Islamic identity. This study aims to analyze the transformation of traditional pesantren into modern educational institutions and to develop a conceptual synthesis of the relationships among Islamic educational transformation, institutional transformation, educational quality, and student well-being. Method – This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature was retrieved from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. Eligible studies were critically appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist, resulting in 27 articles that were analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings – The synthesis identified five major themes: Islamic educational transformation, institutional transformation, the modernization of pesantren, educational quality, and student well-being. The findings indicate that the transformation of pesantren is a gradual, multidimensional, and integrated process in which educational transformation serves as the foundation for institutional strengthening, governance modernization, educational quality improvement, and the enhancement of student well-being. Rather than replacing traditional Islamic values, modernization integrates Islamic educational traditions with the demands of contemporary education. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a comprehensive conceptual synthesis that integrates these five dimensions into a unified framework, providing a more holistic perspective on the transformation of pesantren than previous studies.
