Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially generative AI applications such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, Google Tanslate, or Quillbot, has significantly influenced every aspect of educational practices. In English language learning class, especially for Non-English Department students, Artificial Intelligence has widespread used to help the students deal with their English inadequacy competence whether speaking, reading, and even writing. This study aims to investigate Non-English Department students’ perception toward the use of AI in writing activities. The research focuses on how students view the benefits and challenges related to AI enhanced writing. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through questionnaires and interviews involving 28 students. The findings indicate that most students perceive AI positively because it helps in expanding vocabulary, enhancing grammar, generating ideas, and improving writing efficiency. However, students also raise concerns regarding the challenges related to lack of competence, limited access, inaccuracy information, and plagiarism issue in using AI. The study concludes that AI can be a supportive tool in writing activities if used responsibly and ethically under proper academic guidance

Abstract

Kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris sejak usia dini menjadi salah satu kompetensi penting dalam menghadapi perkembangan global. Namun, pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar masih sering didominasi metode hafalan sehingga kurang menarik dan belum mampu meningkatkan keberanian siswa untuk berkomunikasi. Di sisi lain, anak usia sekolah dasar memiliki karakteristik belajar yang lebih efektif melalui aktivitas bermain, bergerak, dan berekspresi. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini mengusung program “Dance and Speak melalui Integrasi Seni Tari dan Bahasa Inggris untuk Pembelajaran Komunikatif Siswa Sekolah Dasar” sebagai inovasi pembelajaran berbasis seni. Program ini bertujuan meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata dasar, kemampuan memahami instruksi sederhana, pelafalan bahasa Inggris, serta kemampuan mengekspresikan makna melalui gerakan tari kreatif. Pelaksanaan kegiatan menggunakan pendekatan Total Physical Response (TPR), dan pembelajaran kolaboratif yang mengintegrasikan pengenalan kosakata, latihan pelafalan, permainan edukatif, serta koreografi sederhana yang melibatkan seluruh peserta. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui observasi keterlibatan peserta, penilaian kemampuan pengucapan kosakata, ketepatan merespons instruksi, serta penampilan tari edukatif pada akhir pelatihan. Hasil kegiatan ini dapat memberikan solusi dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar, kepercayaan diri, kemampuan komunikasi dasar bahasa Inggris, serta menciptakan suasana belajar yang aktif, menyenangkan, dan bermakna bagi siswa sekolah dasar.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to portray the improvement on student’ vocabulary proficiency and creative thinking through video project learning. The research was conducted to the first-semester students of the Islamic Economics Study Program of IAIN Curup. Observation and interview were used to collect the data. Observation on the video was on two purposes. First, to collect the data about English vocabulary used by the students to describe students’ vocabulary proficiency. Second, to collect the data on the performance of the video as a whole to analyze students’ creative thinking. The interview, in addition, was conducted to the students to gain a deeper understanding of the creative thinking process the students went through to complete the video project. The results of the study indicate that in terms of vocabulary, students' ability still needs improvement. Meanwhile, in terms of creative thinking in creating the video, students have demonstrated good creative thinking skills.
