Abstract

This study serves the purpose of assessing the use of scaffolding strategies by teachers in video-based learning from a psycholinguistic perspective and indicators such as intentionality, appropriateness, structure, collaboration, and internalization. Specifically, this study aims to analyse how scaffolding strategies are realized in teacher discourse, how these strategies manifest through the key indicators of scaffolding, and how they correlate with learners’ psycholinguistic processing and understanding of language input. Accordingly, the study addresses the following research questions: (1) how scaffolding strategies are realized in teacher discourse; (2) how these strategies are manifested through the key indicators of scaffolding; and (3) how these strategies relate to learners’ psycholinguistic processing, particularly in directing attention, facilitating input processing, and supporting memory formation. A descriptive qualitative research method was applied with the objective of observing two Indonesian language learning videos. Data were collected indirectly by observing the interactions in the videos, including teachers’ speech Structure and collaboration supported deeper cognitive engagement, whereas internalization reflected the consolidation of input into memory as learners moved toward independent language use. Overall, the success of adapting Indonesian as a second language to digital video-based learning depends on the quality of teacher teaching and the teacher’s ability to think carefully about and implement scaffolding methods adaptively.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates grammatical errors in the use of Simple Past and Past Continuous tenses among veterinary vocational students in comic strip writing tasks. Grammatical competence plays a crucial role in effective communication; however, many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners experience difficulties in applying tense forms consistently in contextualized writing. The aim of this study is to identify the types and patterns of errors produced by students and to examine how comic strip tasks function as a medium for revealing learners’ grammatical competence. The study employed a descriptive qualitative design with quantitative support using an error analysis approach. The data were collected from students’ written dialogues in veterinary-themed comic strips and analyzed based on error classification frameworks. The findings reveal that tense inconsistency is the most dominant error pattern, particularly the shift between past and present forms within the same narrative. In addition, students demonstrated confusion in verb form selection, limited ability to use Past Continuous meaningfully, and difficulties in sentence structure, especially in question formation. The results also indicate that comic strip writing serves not only as a learning medium but also as an effective diagnostic tool for identifying authentic grammatical weaknesses. Overall, the study suggests that grammar instruction in ESP contexts should emphasize contextualized and meaningful language use rather than isolated rule memorization.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the Berkat Farmer Group in Noekele Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, through the implementation of a sustainable agrosilvopastoral system based on multifunctional crops, namely gmelina, Gamma Umami grass, and butterfly pea flowers. The program was implemented using an educative and participatory approach, with evaluation instruments in the form of assessment rubrics analyzed descriptively. The results of the program showed an improvement in community understanding of the agrosilvopastoral concept and the benefits of multifunctional crops in supporting sustainable livestock feed availability. The implementation of the integrated planting system was considered easy to apply and has the potential to improve land-use efficiency, livestock feed stability, and community welfare. This activity demonstrates that an agrosilvopastoral approach based on multifunctional crops is a relevant strategy for sustainable land and livestock management in East Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

Lecturers in vocational education institutions exhibit unique characteristics in delivering instruction and supporting student learning, particularly in practical classes that emphasize real-world experiences and industry-related skills. This study explores students’ perceptions of lecturers' attitudes and their influence on student engagement in the Forestry Department of the State Agricultural Polytechnic of Kupang. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight students and analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. The findings reveal that key aspects of lecturers' attitudes influencing student engagement include enthusiasm in teaching, fairness in treatment, and supportive responses to students’ questions and mistakes. While no distinctive attitudes specific to vocational lecturers were identified, the study found that students in East Nusa Tenggara possess unique cultural and linguistic traits, which shape their perceptions of lecturers' attitudes. These findings underscore the importance of enhancing the pedagogical competencies of vocational lecturers to create a participatory, equitable, and contextually relevant learning environment, particularly in regions with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
