Abstract

AbstractHoneybees are very important pollinating insects because their pollination activity can improve fruit quality and productivity. Pollen is a male gametophyte of a plant with the reproductive function to fertilize the ovule. Honeybees use pollencollected from various plants as a source of food, especially protein. Pollen contains different types of amino acids that honey bees using it to synthesize food. This study aims to investigate the source of pollen from the honeybee colony of Apis cerana collecting food based on pollen characteristics. Pollen samples were taken from the hind limbs of worker bees and honeycomb of Apis cerana honey bee colonies at the apiary of KTH Wana Karya Tani Sejahtera in Buana Sakti Village, Buana Sakti Village, Batanghari District, East Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. Pollen recognition was performed by identifying their characteristics through the pollen aperture, pollen based on the polar and equatorial, ornamentation, and pollen size. The research showed seven plant species were used by honeybees as a food source for pollen. Each species comes from a different family. The type of pollen aperture found varies according to plant species. Types of pollen aperture 1-colpate and pastorate are commonly found in pollen from hind legs. This type of aperture was also found in hive-stored pollen. The dominant types of pollen found in leg and nest pollen came from C. nucifera and A. mangium species.Key words: Bee, feed source, pollen characteristicsAbstrakLebah madu termasuk serangga penyerbuk yang sangat penting, dimana aktivitas penyerbukannya dapat meningkatkan kualitas dan produktifitas buah. Polen merupakan benih jantan tumbuhan yang berfungsi untuk pembuahan. Lebah madu memanfaatkan polen sebagai pakan, khususnya protein. Polen mengandung jenis asam amino yang berbeda bagi lebah berfungsi untuk sintesis makanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi polen yang menjadi sumber pakan lebah madu berdasarkan karakteristik dan asal tumbuhannya. Sampel polen diambil dari tungkai dan sarang lebah di apiary Apis cerana di KTH Wana Karya Tani Sejahtera di Desa Buana Sakti, Kelurahan Buana Sakti, Kecamatan Batanghari, Kabupaten Lampung Timur, Provinsi Lampung. Identifikasi polen dilakukan dengan memperhatikan karakter aperture polen, bentuk polen berdasarkan polar dan ekuatorial, ornamentasi eksin serta ukuran polen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat tujuh spesies tumbuhan yang dimanfaatkan lebah madu sebagai sumber polen. Masing-masing spesies berasal dari famili yang berbeda. Tipe aperture polen ditemukan berbeda-beda sesuai dengan jenis tanaman. Tipe polen 1-colpate dan pantoporate banyak ditemukan pada polen tungkai. Jenis aperture tersebut juga ditemukan pada polen sarang. Jenis polen yang dominan ditemukan pada polen tungkai dan polen sarang berasal dari spesies C. nucifera dan A. mangium.Kata kunci: Lebah madu, karakteristik polen, sumber pakan

Abstract

ABSTRACT Studies on vegetation biodiversity and carbon stock estimation are becoming increasingly significant in response to global climate change concerns and the growing demand for sustainable agricultural management in tropical drylands. Nevertheless, research focusing on cocoa-based agroforestry systems in eastern Indonesia, particularly related to vegetation structure and carbon sequestration potential, is still relatively scarce. This study was conducted to examine vegetation distribution and estimate carbon stocks within cocoa-based agroforestry systems in eastern Indonesia. A literature review method was applied by analyzing previous studies concerning the characteristics of cocoa agroforestry, especially vegetation composition, stand structure, and total carbon storage. The analysis used a descriptive quantitative approach based on secondary data of vegetation biomass and soil organic carbon. The findings revealed that the cocoa-based agroforestry systems evaluated in this study stored approximately 56.9 tons ha⁻¹ of carbon. Vegetation distribution in the agrisilvicultural system dominated most of the study sites, as reflected by the highest Important Value Index (IVI) recorded for Swietenia mahagoni. This dominance was primarily observed at the pole stage and was closely associated with ecological conditions and vegetation management practices in semi-arid environments. These results suggest that proper management of shade-tree composition plays a crucial role in improving ecological functions and increasing carbon storage capacity in cocoa-based agroforestry systems. ABSTRAK Penelitian mengenai biodiversitas vegetasi dan estimasi cadangan karbon menjadi semakin penting seiring meningkatnya perhatian global terhadap perubahan iklim dan kebutuhan akan pengelolaan pertanian berkelanjutan di kawasan tropis kering. Meskipun demikian, kajian tentang sistem agroforestri berbasis kakao di Indonesia bagian timur, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan struktur vegetasi dan potensi penyimpanan karbon, masih tergolong terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pola sebaran vegetasi serta mengestimasi cadangan karbon pada sistem agroforestri berbasis kakao di wilayah Indonesia timur. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan menelaah berbagai hasil penelitian mengenai karakteristik agroforestri kakao, terutama terkait komposisi vegetasi, struktur tegakan, dan total simpanan karbon. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif menggunakan data sekunder berupa biomassa vegetasi dan karbon organik tanah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem agroforestri berbasis kakao dalam kajian ini memiliki total simpanan karbon sebesar 56,9 ton/ha. Sebaran vegetasi pada sistem agrisilvikultur mendominasi sebagian besar lokasi penelitian, yang tercermin dari tingginya nilai Indeks Nilai Penting (IVI) pada jenis Swietenia mahagoni. Dominasi tersebut terutama ditemukan pada tingkat tiang dan dipengaruhi oleh kondisi ekologis serta pola pengelolaan vegetasi di wilayah semi-kering. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa pengaturan komposisi tanaman penaung memiliki peranan penting dalam meningkatkan fungsi ekologis sekaligus kapasitas penyimpanan karbon pada sistem agroforestri berbasis kakao.

Abstract

Cocoa is an important plantation commodity with a significant role in Indonesia's economy. This research aims to understand cocoa-based agroforestry by leveraging traditional management in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The study analyzes the cocoa management practices of smallholder cocoa farmers in Sikka Regency. Qualitative research methods are used to gain understanding of the local community's traditional management of cocoa-based agroforestry from focused literature study. The research results are expected to provide a better understanding of cocoa cultivation and conservation practices of smallholder farmers in the region, and to offer recommendations for enhancing productivity and sustainability of cocoa plantations in Sikka Regency

Abstract

Keberadaan sumber daya alam dan budaya yang beragam menjadikan Desa Tesbatan II di Kecamatan Amarasi, Kabupaten Kupang, memiliki prospek yang kuat untuk dikembangkan sebagai kawasan ekowisata berbasis masyarakat. Potensi tersebut tercermin dari kekayaan keanekaragaman hayati, meliputi vegetasi alami, satwa liar, dan berbagai jasa lingkungan yang didukung oleh nilai-nilai budaya lokal yang masih terpelihara. Meskipun demikian, potensi tersebut belum memberikan manfaat yang optimal bagi masyarakat karena masih terbatasnya kemampuan dalam pengelolaan usaha wisata, pemanfaatan teknologi digital untuk promosi, serta penguatan tata kelola kelembagaan ekonomi masyarakat. Sebagai upaya menjawab permasalahan tersebut, dilaksanakan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang melibatkan Kelompok Tani Hutan (KTH) Sismeni sebagai mitra utama. Kegiatan difokuskan pada peningkatan kapasitas anggota kelompok dalam mengenali, mengelola, dan mempromosikan potensi lokal melalui pemanfaatan media digital. Pendekatan yang diterapkan bersifat partisipatif dengan melibatkan peserta secara aktif dalam rangkaian kegiatan yang mencakup sosialisasi, pembelajaran interaktif, diskusi kelompok, praktik lapangan, inventarisasi potensi wisata, serta pengukuran tingkat pemahaman sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan. Program yang diikuti oleh 13 anggota KTH Sismeni ini menunjukkan hasil yang positif. Peningkatan kapasitas peserta terlihat dari hasil evaluasi yang memperlihatkan skor pascakegiatan lebih tinggi dibandingkan skor awal. Selain itu, peserta mampu menyusun dokumentasi berbagai aset lokal yang berpotensi menjadi daya tarik wisata, antara lain keanekaragaman hayati, lanskap alam, tradisi budaya, produk kuliner, dan kerajinan masyarakat. Dokumentasi tersebut selanjutnya dimanfaatkan sebagai materi promosi berbasis platform digital. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini memberikan dasar yang kuat bagi penguatan peran masyarakat dalam pengelolaan dan promosi destinasi wisata desa sekaligus mendukung terwujudnya Desa Tesbatan II sebagai kawasan ekowisata yang berkelanjutan

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia holds approximately 23% of the world's total mangrove area, making it the country with the largest mangrove extent globally. However, intensive conversion for aquaculture, agriculture, and coastal infrastructure development has resulted in substantial mangrove degradation, with an estimated loss of over 40% of the original mangrove cover over the past five decades. This literature review aims to compile, analyze, and synthesize mangrove rehabilitation techniques implemented across Indonesia from 2020 to 2025. The study applied a Narrative Literature Review (NLR) method using secondary literature indexed in Google Scholar. Results indicate that mangrove rehabilitation in Indonesia encompasses five principal approaches: (1) direct propagule and seedling planting, (2) transplantation techniques, (3) silvofishery-based rehabilitation, (4) permeable structure and bioengineering approaches, and (5) community-based participatory rehabilitation. Successful rehabilitation is contingent on appropriate site selection, hydrological assessment, species-site matching, and sustained post-planting monitoring. The integration of permeable structures to restore hydrological conditions in severely degraded sites has demonstrated promising outcomes, particularly in areas experiencing high wave energy. Community-based approaches showed higher long-term sustainability compared to top-down government programs. Key challenges include high seedling mortality on degraded mudflats, inadequate monitoring protocols, limited financial continuity, and insufficient community capacity building. Future programs should integrate ecological engineering with socio-economic dimensions and employ remote sensing and drone technologies for large-scale monitoring to ensure the long-term success of mangrove ecosystem recovery.   Keywords: community-based rehabilitation, Indonesia, mangrove, permeable structure, silvofishery   ABSTRAK Indonesia memiliki sekitar 23% dari total luasan mangrove dunia, menjadikannya negara dengan kawasan mangrove terluas di dunia. Namun, konversi intensif untuk tambak, pertanian, dan pembangunan infrastruktur pesisir telah mengakibatkan degradasi mangrove yang signifikan, dengan estimasi kehilangan lebih dari 40% tutupan mangrove asli dalam lima dekade terakhir. Literature review ini bertujuan untuk mengompilasi, menganalisis, dan menyintesis teknik rehabilitasi mangrove yang telah dilakukan di Indonesia dari tahun 2020 hingga 2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Narrative Literature Review (NLR) dengan sumber literatur sekunder yang terindeks di Google Scholar. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa rehabilitasi mangrove di Indonesia mencakup lima pendekatan utama: (1) penanaman langsung propagul dan bibit, (2) teknik transplantasi, (3) rehabilitasi berbasis silvofishery, (4) pendekatan struktur permeabel dan bioengineering, serta (5) rehabilitasi partisipatif berbasis masyarakat. Keberhasilan rehabilitasi bergantung pada pemilihan tapak yang tepat, penilaian hidrologi, kesesuaian jenis tapak, dan pemantauan pasca tanam yang berkelanjutan. Teknik struktur permeabel menunjukkan efektivitas tinggi di areal terdegradasi berat dengan energi gelombang tinggi, sedangkan pendekatan berbasis masyarakat menghasilkan keberlanjutan jangka panjang yang lebih baik. Tantangan utama mencakup tingginya mortalitas bibit, protokol pemantauan yang tidak memadai, keterbatasan pembiayaan, dan pemberdayaan masyarakat yang belum optimal. Program rehabilitasi ke depan perlu mengintegrasikan rekayasa ekologi dengan dimensi sosial-ekonomi serta teknologi pemantauan modern.   Kata kunci: Indonesia, mangrove, rehabilitasi berbasis masyarakat, silvofishery, struktur permeabel

Abstract

Utilization of Home Gardens with Sweet Potato Cultivation to Enhance Food Security and Household Income. Food shortages have led to rising food prices in the market. In response, the government has designated sweet potatoes as a local food crop in East Nusa Tenggara to address Indonesia’s food supply issues. This study aims to determine the productivity of households in growing sweet potatoes and to identify suitable planting methods for yard areas as a means of improving household economics. Data collection was carried out using secondary data from the East Nusa Tenggara Agricultural Statistics Agency. The descriptive process involved understanding the data conditions and explaining them through both numerical and verbal descriptions of the collected variables. The results showed that the highest growth percentage using the single planting method (monoculture) was in Manggarai Regency, while the highest percentage of growth using the mixed planting method (polyculture) was found in East Nusa Tenggara, specifically in South Timor Tengah Regency. Planting crops using the intercropping method can increase the productivity of a variety of crops to be cultivated, as well as help maintain food stability within households.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the Berkat Farmer Group in Noekele Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, through the implementation of a sustainable agrosilvopastoral system based on multifunctional crops, namely gmelina, Gamma Umami grass, and butterfly pea flowers. The program was implemented using an educative and participatory approach, with evaluation instruments in the form of assessment rubrics analyzed descriptively. The results of the program showed an improvement in community understanding of the agrosilvopastoral concept and the benefits of multifunctional crops in supporting sustainable livestock feed availability. The implementation of the integrated planting system was considered easy to apply and has the potential to improve land-use efficiency, livestock feed stability, and community welfare. This activity demonstrates that an agrosilvopastoral approach based on multifunctional crops is a relevant strategy for sustainable land and livestock management in East Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the prevailing issue of global warming, characterized by the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere, leading to climate change. In climate change mitigation efforts, mangrove forests play an important role by effectively storing and absorbing substantial quantities of carbon, subsequently sequestering it in the form of biomass. This study aims to estimate the potential of carbon stocks stored in the area of West Oesapa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism, estimate CO2 uptake, and determine the correlation between NDVI vegetation index and carbon stock/storage. This research was conducted for two months, started from November to December 2023 at the West Oesapa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism. The research stages consisted of pre-image processing, image processing, field survey, and data analysis. The species allometric formula was utilized to calculate mangrove biomass, which was then converted into carbon stock values in mangrove forests. Sentinel-2A images were transformed with Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), then regression analysis was conducted between NDVI and carbon stock values to obtain a carbon stock estimation model using satellite imagery. There are five mangrove species found, namely Sonneratia alba, Avicenia alba, Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizhopora mucronate, and Burguiera. The results indicated that the estimated carbon stock stored in the West Oesapa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism was 3,852.36 tons/ha. Meanwhile, the estimated CO2 uptake in the West Oesapa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism is 14,125.32 tons/ha. The results of the person correlation analysis with a correlation coefficient of 0.608 means that the NDVI variable and carbon stocks are correlated or have a relationship.
