Abstract

The recent exposure of bullying in pesantren has raised an irony, threatening its reputation as a safe place to prepare students (santri) with motivation, self-reliance, well-character, and dedication. This research explores bullying in pesantrens in Madura, East Java, Indonesia. It employs a qualitative and critical descriptive approach and hypothetically relates the bullying to the demise of sufi values in the pesantren. Purposely selecting six pesantren (two from each type: Salaf, semi-modern, and modern) as samples, with respondents consisting of students, teachers and staff, this research seeks to accommodate the complexity of patterns or types that might have contributed to how bullying takes place and how it may relate to some sufi values. It turns out that among several types, bullying occurs most prevalently between students and teachers (ustadh), serving interchangeably as doers and victims. This can be as much related to social hierarchy within the pesantren as to the double roles that both play. The bullying indicates the demise of sufi values and can be attributed to at least four factors: insufficient contextualization during the learning process, imbalanced reading materials for the subject, an ineffective learning process, and a hierarchical atmosphere among the participants.

Bebantai is a collective ritual of slaughtering buffaloes or cows to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. This tradition has been carried out for generations by the people of Merangin, especially in Pangkalan Jambu subdistrict. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data sources are primary and secondary data obtained through observation, interviews, and literature review. The data analysis technique uses content analysis. The results show that bebantai is a manifestation of the hadith about the virtue of sacrificing animals in Ramadan and distributing their meat to the needy. Bebantai also reflects the values of gratitude, solidarity, brotherhood, and mutual assistance among the community members. Bebantai is not only a religious ritual but also a cultural expression that preserves the local identity and social harmony.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the management and treatment of village assets, located in Blumbungan Village, through the lens of the principles of prohibition, inspection, and sharia accounting. This study uses a field methodology (Qualitative). Through interviews, this study obtains direct data from the field sourced from several specific informants consisting of religious figures and including Blumbungan Village officials consisting of: Village Head, Village Secretary, Village Treasurer, Head of Kaur, Head of BPD, in Blumbungan Village. To strengthen the results of these findings, the researcher uses secondary data by analyzing documents or literature related to village asset management. The results of the research findings reveal a fact that the administration in Blumbungan Village has entered asset management practices that are in line with established formal provisions and regulations. However, the principles of sharia accounting that have been applied remain insufficiently articulated. In practice, the treatment, recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure of assets continue to be influenced by conventional government accounting standards. Furthermore, significant differences remain between these practices and the core values inherent in Islamic accounting, such as monotheism, trustworthiness, justice, transparency, and accountability. These differences are exacerbated by various challenges, including limited understanding of Islamic accounting concepts among Blumbungan Village officials, the absence of Sharia-based technical regulations, and constraints related to human resource capacity and information technology infrastructure in Blumbungan Village. In the discussion section, this study advocates for the incorporation of Islamic accounting values into village asset management. This can be achieved through implementing training initiatives for Blumbungan Village personnel, developing Sharia-compliant technical guidelines, and improving the monitoring system with active community participation. Through these steps, Blumbungan Village asset management will not only meet administrative requirements but also be aligned with Sharia principles that foster moral values and social responsibility.

Abstract

This article explores how hadith-based halal norms are transformed into legal-operational standards within Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance system. Existing scholarship on halal certification has largely focused on legal, economic, industrial, and technical dimensions, while relatively little attention has been devoted to the process through which hadith functions as a source of normative authority that is subsequently institutionalized within the regulatory framework of a modern nation-state. Drawing on a library-based approach, this article analyzes hadiths concerning halal, haram, doubtful matters (Shubhāt), and slaughtering practices, and traces their transformation into Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance as well as its implementing regulations issued by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal—BPJPH). The analysis demonstrates that hadith serves not merely as a source of religious and ethical guidance but also as the normative foundation for determining halal criteria, prohibiting specific substances, regulating slaughtering procedures, and governing halal products. Through the mechanisms of bayān, takhṣīṣ, and taqyīd, prophetic norms are transformed from religious authority into positive legal standards implemented through certification systems, material supervision, and halal regulatory governance. This article argues that Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance system represents a process of the positivization of Islamic law and the institutionalization of prophetic normative authority within the framework of the modern state. By highlighting this transformation, the article contributes to contemporary hadith scholarship and the study of Islamic legal governance by demonstrating how prophetic normative teachings are translated into legal instruments and operational regulatory mechanisms in modern Muslim society.

This paper discusses about al-Ḥawālah, namely the transfer of debt. This study has a very important purpose for the continuation of human interaction in daily life, it is very important for academics to learn about al-Ḥawālah studies in the Qur’an and Hadith, so that it can be used as a source of legal assistance for Muslims. The author can consider al-Ḥawālah, namely the transfer of debt from the debtor (al-mudīn) to others who are burdened with others with a kafālah that can only collect dependents in the hands of the guarantor (kāfil) without being moved, while the debt is still in the responsibility of al-mudīn.

Abstract

The discourse on women as a source of slander continues from the classical era to the present, this discourse is still contextual even though many researchers have examined this issue, this discourse is motivated by the hadith which states that women are a source of slander, this hadith is then used as a basis for a fatwa by Puritan Islamic groups so that women do not have a role in the public sphere, this issue has led to criticism from Khaled Abou El Fadl. This paper aims to analyze the criticism conveyed by Khaled Abou El Fadl regarding the use of hadith on women as a source of slander that is often conveyed on television, Youtube, fatwas in Islamic circles labeled as puritanical. In addition, this paper also wants to describe the construction of puritan Islam, their understanding, their use of hadith and the theory used by Abou el Fadl about criticizing the use of hadith related to women. While the research method used is qualitative with an analytical descriptive approach so as to obtain the conclusion that the understanding of Puritan Islam in understanding the hadith that is used as their reference in issuing a fatwa tends to be textual, rigid, unwilling to compromise with the ulama then Khaled Abou El Fadl's criticism of the use of hadith is based on five conditions in using hadith as evidence in religion, namely, honesty, diligence, thoroughness, reasonableness and control.
