Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic disease that often occurs in the elderly and can cause pain, joint stiffness, and limitations in daily activities. This condition can reduce the quality of life of the elderly if not treated properly. This study aims to provide geriatric nursing care to rheumatoid arthritis patients at the Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin Social Home for the Elderly in Padang Pariaman Regency. The method used is a case study with one client managed through the process of assessment, diagnosis determination, intervention, implementation, and evalu ation of nursing conducted from February 26 to March 3, 2026. The results of the study showed nursing diagnoses in the form of chronic pain, impaired physical mobility, and risk of falls. Interventions provided included pain management, mobilization support, and environmental safety management. After nursing actions for 5 days, the client's pain level decreased, physical mobility abilities increased, and the risk of falls could be minimized through the nursing interventions provided. It is hoped that the elderly can apply relaxation techniques, simple mobilization exercises, and maintain environmental safety to help reduce pain and prevent the risk of falls.

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization, the prevalence of gout arthritis worldwide continues to increase each year, with an incidence ranging from 1%–4% in the general population. It is more common in men than women, especially in Western countries, with a prevalence of around 3%–6%, and in individuals over 80 years old it can reach 10% in men and 6% in women. Gout arthritis is a joint inflammation caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals due to purine metabolism disorders. If not managed promptly and appropriately, it can lead to joint damage, tophi formation, heart disease, kidney stones, and reduced quality of life. This case study aims to apply family nursing care to a family with gout arthritis. The method used is the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation with a descriptive design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and physical examinations. The results showed that the family experienced joint pain and a lack of knowledge. Three nursing diagnoses were identified: chronic pain, ineffective health management, and deficient knowledge. After 9 days of intervention including health education, pain management, and family involvement, there was a reduction in pain and an improvement in the family’s knowledge and ability to provide care. Family nursing care for patients with gout arthritis was effective in improving knowledge, reducing pain, and enhancing family independence in care through education and the application of a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2024, approximately 1 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension, with a prevalence of 26.6% in men and 26.1% in women. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension reaches 34% or about 63,309,620 people, while in West Sumatra it is recorded at 27.8%. Hypertension is a cardiovascular disorder characterized by an increase in blood pressure, with systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure of ≥90 mmHg. This study aimed to provide gerontic nursing care for an elderly patient with hypertension. The research employed a case study method involving one client at Wisma Gunung Tigo, PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin, Padang Pariaman Regency, from February 18 to 23, 2026. The nursing assessment identified three nursing diagnoses: ineffective health management, chronic pain, and risk of falls. The nursing interventions included health education, non-pharmacological pain management through deep breathing relaxation techniques, and identification of the client's safety needs. After five days of nursing implementation, the client demonstrated improved awareness of the disease, healthier lifestyle behaviors, reduced headache complaints, better blood pressure control, and a decreased risk of falls. It is expected that the client will routinely monitor blood pressure, adhere to medication therapy, and avoid factors that may worsen the condition. Caregivers are also expected to supervise and encourage regular health check-ups and treatment compliance.
