Abstract

This study aims to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of ninth-grade students of MTs Nurul Jadid by using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle includes the stages of planning, implementation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were ninth-grade students of Religion 2 in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observations of student and teacher activities, as well as learning outcome tests in each cycle. The study shows that the use of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model can improve student participation and learning outcomes. The average value increased from 69.35 before the intervention to 78.69 in the first cycle and 91.30 in the second cycle. The percentage of students who achieved learning objectives also increased from 52% to 90%. This increase indicates that PBL is effective in encouraging students to think critically, work together, and understand the concept of Linear Equations in Two Variables more deeply. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model creates an active, meaningful, and student-centered mathematics learning environment, which has a positive impact on improving learning outcomes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis kemampuan spasial matematis siswa SMP kelas 8 menyelesaikan soal-soal pada materi Teorema Pythagoras. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII pada satu kelas yang dipilih sebagai kelas penelitian, dan beberapa siswa dipilih berdasarkan hasil tes. Instrumen Penelitian berupa tes kemampuan spasial yang sudah tervalidasi serta memenuhi kaidah penulisan instrumen untuk penelitian. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu tes soal, wawancara, serta dokumentasi. Analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan kesimpulan. Keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi teknik. Dari enam subjek penelitian, dua siswa (33,3%) berada pada kategori kemampuan spasial tinggi, dua siswa (33,3%) kategori sedang, dan dua siswa (33,3%) kategori rendah.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to help students overcome difficulties in learning mathematics, particularly in the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV). Based on initial observations at MTs Nurul Jadid, it was found that many ninth-grade students in Class IX Reguler 4 experienced difficulties in constructing mathematical models and solving problems using graphical, substitution, elimination, or combined methods. To address this issue, the learning sessions were carried out using interactive and contextual approaches that emphasize active student participation in the learning process. The activity was implemented in five stages: (1) planning and preparation, (2) pretest to measure students’ initial abilities, (3) guided learning sessions, (4) posttest to measure improvements in learning outcomes, and (5) evaluation. The program was conducted over four meetings, each lasting 40 minutes, involving 24 students from Class IX Reguler 4. The results indicated a significant improvement in learning outcomes. The average pretest score of 77.5 increased to 92.1 in the posttest. Students also demonstrated high enthusiasm and participation throughout the sessions. They reported feeling more confident and motivated in learning mathematics. Based on these results, it can be concluded that guided learning activities are effective in improving students’ understanding of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) and in helping them overcome difficulties in learning mathematics. This program is expected to be continued and further developed to support the improvement of mathematics learning quality in the pesantren environment.
