Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the accuracy of students’ procedural text structure and (2) inaccuracies in structure, writing, and meaning in procedural texts produced by eleventh-grade students at SMK Negeri 6 Padang. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The data consisted of 25 student procedural texts collected through document analysis. The researcher served as the primary instrument. Data analysis followed qualitative procedures: data reduction, data display, and verification. The results show that students’ texts contained the three essential components of procedural text structure: goal, steps (instructions), and reaffirmation (closing). In addition, accuracy was found to be more dominant than inaccuracy in both writing and meaning, although writing errors were still identified in some texts. Recommendation: instruction on procedural texts should emphasize editing practice (spelling, word choice, and sentence clarity) and strengthening the semantic alignment of each step so that structurally complete texts are consistently accompanied by linguistic accuracy and clear meaning.

Abstract

Seventh grade MTS Al-Ikhsan students study descriptive text. However, students who struggle to write descriptive texts that fit their structure can hinder learning. In addition, students face difficulties in creating concepts and ideas in descriptive texts. As a result, the text they created did not match the existing depression text structure. This study focuses on the text structure of the descriptions. This research is a type of qualitative research that uses a descriptive approach. The source of this research data is the analysis of the text structure descriptions of students in class VII at MTS Al-IKhsan in the West Pasaman district. During the research process, we collect this data by observing and analyzing the text structure description, ensuring that the analysis is free from errors. The results of this study show that students in the 7th grade at MTS Al-Ikhsan in West Pasamana district have used the three text structures when writing descriptive text. Of the 32 descriptive texts analyzed, there are 24 complete description texts with general identifications, section descriptions, and summaries; 32 texts have section description structures, and 24 texts are summary structures.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze seventh-grade students’ difficulties in writing poetry and their implications for Indonesian language instruction at SMP Negeri 1 Siberut Utara, Kepulauan Mentawai Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The participants were seventh-grade students. Data were collected through a poetry-writing test. Data trustworthiness was strengthened through triangulation. Poetry analysis used a modified rubric adapted from Nurgiyantoro (2016), covering four assessment aspects: diction, imagination, figurative language, and theme. The findings indicate that students experienced difficulties across all four aspects. In terms of diction, difficulties were reflected in inaccurate word relationships and less engaging word choices. Regarding imagination, students were not yet able to develop imagery and poetic visualization adequately. For figurative language, students faced obstacles in using figures of speech as a distinctive feature of poetry. With respect to theme, students had difficulty determining a clear and consistent theme. The study recommends more structured poetry-writing instruction focusing on diction selection, imagery development, figurative language use, and theme determination, supported by the use of model poems, concrete examples, and specific feedback for each assessment aspect.
