Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi Alat Peraga Papan Berhitung dalam memvisualisasikan konsep penjumlahan dan pengurangan bagi siswa kelas rendah di SD Kuanino 2 Kupang. Masalah utama yang melatarbelakangi kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah rendahnya pemahaman konsep berhitung dasar akibat pembelajaran matematika yang cenderung abstrak dan konvensional. Kegiatan pengabdian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif yang melibatkan 30 siswa sebagai partisipan. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara terstruktur dan penyebaran instrumen angket, yang diuji keabsahannya melalui triangulasi sumber, triangulasi teknik, serta expert judgment. Data kualitatif dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis interaktif Miles dan Huberman, sedangkan data kuantitatif dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif persentase. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian secara kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan papan berhitung mampu mengubah atmosfer kelas menjadi lebih interaktif, berpusat pada siswa, serta efektif menjembatani fase operasional konkret anak. Sementara itu, analisis kuantitatif memperkuat temuan tersebut dengan perolehan rata-rata akumulasi respons positif siswa mencapai 96%. Indikator visualisasi estetika warna menempati persentase tertinggi (86,7% sangat setuju) dalam mencegah kebosanan belajar. Secara kognitif, media manipulatif ini terbukti mempercepat pemahaman logika operasi hitung dasar dan mereduksi kecemasan matematika anak. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi Alat Peraga Papan Berhitung sangat efektif meningkatkan minat, keterlibatan aktif, dan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa kelas rendah di SD Kuanino 2 Kupang. Abstract: This community service activity aims to describe the implementation of the Abacus Teaching Aid in visualizing the concepts of addition and subtraction for lower-grade students at SD Kuanino 2 Kupang. The main issue underlying this community service activity is the low level of understanding of basic arithmetic concepts due to mathematics instruction that tends to be abstract and conventional. This community service activity employs a descriptive approach involving 30 students as participants. Data collection techniques included structured interviews and the distribution of questionnaires, whose validity was tested through source triangulation, methodological triangulation, and expert judgment. Qualitative data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis technique, while quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive percentage statistics. The qualitative results of the community service activity indicate that the use of an abacus board can transform the classroom atmosphere into a more interactive, student-centered environment and effectively bridge children’s concrete operational stage. Meanwhile, the quantitative analysis reinforces these findings, with the average cumulative percentage of positive student responses reaching 96%. The aesthetic color visualization indicator had the highest percentage (86.7% strongly agreed) in preventing learning boredom. Cognitively, this manipulative medium was proven to accelerate the understanding of basic arithmetic operations and reduce children’s math anxiety. It can be concluded that the use of the Abacus Teaching Aid is highly effective in increasing the interest, active engagement, and understanding of mathematical concepts among lower-grade students at Kuanino 2 Elementary School in Kupang.
