Abstract

Background: This study is grounded in the importance of incorporating spiritual and moral perspectives to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Islamic religious education. Objective: This study aims to identify the conceptual and practical contributions of Islamic religious education to the implementation of the SDGs across various aspects of social life. Method: The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, drawing on a literature review of academic sources, global policy documents, and relevant Islamic teachings. Result: The findings indicate that Islamic values, such as social justice, environmental stewardship, education for all, and social responsibility toward vulnerable groups, are highly aligned with the SDGs, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Conclusion: The study concludes that Islamic religious education can serve as an ethical and spiritual foundation for sustainable development practices that extend beyond economic growth to encompass character formation, social awareness, and harmonious human coexistence. Contribution: This study contributes to the growing body of literature on the intersection of Islamic religious education and sustainable development by demonstrating the compatibility between Islamic values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

The character crisis among the youth demands the development of a holistic Islamic education model that not only focuses on cognitive aspects but also balances the integration of affective and psychomotor dimensions. The main objective of this study is to explore a holistic tahfidz education model that integrates Islamic character formation. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, incorporating a literature study approach to empirical scientific publications, supplemented by bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer to map networks of keywords, author collaborations, and citations within the literature corpus under review. The findings from this research indicate that tahfidz pesantren has strengths in shaping Qur'anic personalities through a combination of memorizing the Qur'an, internalizing spiritual values, habituating moral behavior, and the exemplary role of teachers. Excessive emphasis on memorization targets in some tahfidz programs using mechanical repetition methods can reduce space for deep understanding, thus risking the production of hafidz with minimal contextual understanding of the Qur’an and internalization of substantial values. Referring to the results obtained from the data analysis, a reorientation of the tahfidz curriculum is needed that emphasizes the integration of memorization, contemplation, character education, and moral-based evaluation. By integrating the practice of contemplation, moral education, and social involvement based on the Qur'an into the curriculum, the Tahfidz Islamic Boarding School is believed to be able to form a generation that excels academically, spiritually, and socially, and is ready to become agents of social change in modern society.

Abstract

The Montessori method remains a significant focus in early childhood education due to its emphasis on independence, exploration, and sensory-based learning. This study aims to map global academic trends on Montessori research from 2016 to 2024 using a bibliometric approach. Data were retrieved from the Scopus database using keywords such as “Montessori education,” “early childhood,” and “alternative learning models.” Analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, R (Bibliometrix), and Microsoft Excel to examine citation patterns, keyword associations, and geographical publication distributions. The results reveal fluctuating citation trends, with a peak in 2020 and a notable decline by 2024. Keyword mapping shows strong associations between Montessori and early childhood education, with emerging links to educational technology (EdTech). The United States leads in research output and academic influence, followed by Australia and Italy. This study introduces a new perspective by exploring the intersection between Montessori education and EdTech an area still underrepresented in early childhood research. The findings contribute conceptually by emphasizing how digital integration could sustain and innovate Montessori pedagogy. Overall, the study highlights the relevance of Montessori in contemporary education and encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration to explore its evolution in the digital era.
