Abstract

Diarrhea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among children under five, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. The increasing prevalence of diarrhea is influenced by various factors, including low maternal knowledge, suboptimal Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), and inadequate sanitation facilities, such as limited access to healthy latrines, wastewater disposal systems, and waste disposal facilities. This study aims to analyze the risk factors associated with the incidence of diarrhea in children aged 12–59 months in the working area of Puskesmas Pembina, Palembang City, in 2025. This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 107 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed significant associations between maternal knowledge (p = 0.003), clean and healthy living behavior (p = 0.005), and the availability of healthy latrines (p = 0.000) with diarrhea incidence. However, no significant associations were found with wastewater disposal (p = 0.266) or waste disposal (p = 0.193). Maternal knowledge, PHBS, and ownership of healthy latrines are key factors in preventing diarrhea. Educational and sanitation improvement efforts are essential.

Abstract

COD masih melebihi ambang batas. Kesimpulan: IPAL di RPH-R Modern Gandus cukup efektif menurunkan sebagian besar parameter, namun belum optimal dalam menurunkan COD sehingga diperlukan pengolahan lanjutan. Abstract

Formalin is a hazardous chemical that is banned from use in food, but is still found in imported fruit. Traders have an important role in preventing the circulation of food with formaldehyde, so the knowledge of traders about the dangers of formaldehyde needs to be studied. Objective: This study aims to determine the knowledge of traders and formalin content in imported fruit sold in X Market, Palembang City in 2025. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The population in this study were all imported fruit traders in X Market totaling 9 people who served as respondents. The fruit samples tested were 24 samples consisting of apples, pears, and grapes. Data were collected through questionnaires and laboratory tests using formalin test kit. Results: The results showed that all traders (100%) had a good level of knowledge about formalin. Of the 24 fruit samples tested, 21 samples (87.5%) did not contain formalin and 3 samples (12.5%) showed positive results, all of which were from grapes. Conclusion: The majority of traders had good knowledge about formaldehyde, but formaldehyde was still found in some imported fruits, especially grapes.

Abstract

Heart disease remains an important public health problem, while dietary habits associated with cardiovascular risk can begin to develop during adolescence. Health education therefore needs media that can deliver practical and understandable information. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of leaflet and educational video media on adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and actions regarding healthy eating as an effort to prevent heart disease. A quantitative quasi-experimental study with a two-group pretest-posttest design was conducted among 36 grade XI students of SMA Negeri 22 Palembang in February–June 2026. Participants were divided into a leaflet group and an educational video group, with 18 respondents in each group. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire covering knowledge, attitudes, and actions. Within-group changes were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test, while differences between media were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. The leaflet group showed significant changes in knowledge (p<0.001) and attitudes (p<0.001), but not actions (p=0.471). The video group showed significant changes in knowledge (p=0.001) and attitudes (p=0.001), but not actions (p=0.059). Comparison between media showed a significant difference in knowledge (p=0.020), while attitudes (p=0.168) and actions (p=0.392) did not differ significantly. These findings indicate that both media can support health education, with a statistically significant difference between media observed only for knowledge in this study.

Abstract

Food safety is an essential aspect of public health. Unhygienic eating utensils from street food vendors can act as a transmission medium for pathogenic microorganisms causing foodborne diseases. This study aims to determine the overview of Total Plate Count (TPC), the presence of Escherichia coli, and the washing patterns of eating utensils used by street food vendors across four sub-districts in the Palembang City area. This research utilized a quantitative descriptive design. The population comprised street food vendors selling ready-to-eat food, with a sample of 30 eating utensils (plates) obtained through an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected by observing washing patterns and conducting laboratory tests using the Pour plate method (for TPC) and Compact Dry EC (for E. coli). Microbiological examination results revealed that 100% of the utensil samples (30 plates) Did Not Meet the Standard (Tidak Memenuhi Syarat/TMS) for TPC values, with an average contamination of 56.79 CFU/cm2. The E. coli examination showed 7 samples (23.3%) were positive and 23 samples (76.7%) were negative. Observation of washing patterns indicated that the vast majority of vendors (90.0%) applied "Not Good" washing practices, with only 10.0% categorized as "Good". The high level of contamination is closely associated with the use of stagnant water systems (without running water) and the absence of a disinfection stage.

Abstract

Online game addiction has become an increasingly prevalent issue among adolescents and may negatively affect physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, and academic achievement. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with online game addiction among adolescents at SMP Negeri 21 Palembang in 2026. This study employed a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach involving 283 respondents selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a respondent characteristics questionnaire, the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale–Short Form (IGDS9-SF), a parenting style questionnaire, and a peer role questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 137 respondents (48.4%) were classified as having online game addiction, while 146 respondents (51.6%) were not. Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between sex, age, gaming duration, father’s occupation, mother’s occupation, and peer influence with online game addiction (p<0.05). In contrast, parents’ marital status and parenting style were not significantly associated with online game addiction (p>0.05). These findings indicate that individual, family, and social environmental factors contribute to online game addiction among adolescents. Therefore, collaboration between schools and parents is needed to strengthen supervision, limit gaming duration, and provide education on responsible digital media use as preventive measures against online game addiction.
