Abstract

Parasite is one of the infectious disease pathogens in fish which can cause secondary infection by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Therefore, fish quarantine activities are needed to prevent disease transmission and are carried out by the fish quarantine center. This study aimed to characterize the types of parasites that infect fish commodities that will be trafficked at the Fish Quarantine Center, Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products in Semarang, Central Java. Parasitic examination was carried out using the original microscopic method by scraping the mucus, gills and internal organs, then characterizing it morphologically. The results showed that the infected parasites in fish samples included ectoparasites (Trichodina, Gyrodactylus, Dactylogyrus, Chilodonella, and Argulus) and endoparasites (Anisakis).

Abstract

The rapid development of the industry in the coastal region has increased the concentration of heavy metals in waters. Furthermore, efforts to improve water quality in reducing the concentration of these metals are biofilter. The biofilter used in this study was a combination of E. cottonii and P. viridis. The study used Complete Random Design (CRD), with 4 treatments 5 replications. Pb heavy metal content testing uses AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer). The results showed that the best treatment was in P2 (p 0.05), with the combination of E. cottonii and P. viridis at 62.50 and 225 g. The effectiveness of Pb heavy metal uptake is influenced by the density of E. cottoni, but inversely proportional to the density of P. viridis. Furthermore, in high stocking densities, E. cottonii is more effective in absorbing heavy metals than P. viridis.Keywords: E. cottonii, P. viridis, Biofilter, lead (Pb) ABSTRAKPesatnya perkembangan industri di wilayah pesisir merupakan salah satu penyebab meningkatnya konsentrasi logam berat dalam perairan.

Abstract

The fisheries and marine sector in East Java has abundant potential, one of which is Banyuwangi district. Banyuwangi Regency has potential in freshwater aquaculture because it has 324 rivers with an area of 735 km2 and swamps and reservoirs of 60 hectares. One of the villages in Banyuwangi Regency is Segobang Village, which has the potential to have abundant water sources and continuous flow. This potential can be utilized by training and assisting fish nurseries in Segobang Village by utilizing continuously flowing water and Smart Aquaculture Automatized System (SAAS) technology by utilizing biofilters and running water and aeration as a source of oxygen.  The stages carried out in this community service are as follows: initial assessment of the location, infrastructure and technology development, periodic training and mentoring, implementation and monitoring of the cultivation process, and continued marketing and sales. After the training, the Segobang Village community showed a significant increase in knowledge. The average pre-test scores ranged from 30 to 51, while the post-test scores increased to 79 to 87. This improvement shows that participants better understand the SAAS and its use in fish farming. Continued training and practice can help strengthen the adoption of this technology in the community.

Abstract

The intensification of the global poultry sector is currently challenged by the need to balance productivity with the mitigation of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and environmental pollution. This study addresses the technological gap among smallholder farmers in Banyuwangi, Indonesia, by implementing a comprehensive technology transfer program focused on the functional substitution of antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) with probiotics and the development of waste management cycles. Employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework, the intervention integrated cognitive coaching, technical demonstrations, and longitudinal field applications to bridge the divide between biotechnological innovation and grassroots practice. Data were obtained from 27 broiler farmers through pre- and post-test evaluations and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to measure literacy shifts and technical adoption. Quantitative analysis revealed a significant transformation in biotechnology literacy, with understanding of probiotic mechanisms increasing from 37.0% (baseline) to 85.2% post-intervention. Furthermore, technical competence in functional feed formulation improved by 33.4% (p < 0.05), while the intention to adopt sustainable practices increased to 96.3%. These findings indicate that barriers to adoption among smallholders are primarily driven by limited access to applied science rather than cultural resistance. The study concludes that this hybrid extension model successfully establishes a viable micro-circular economy, offering a replicable strategy for upstream AMR mitigation in developing agropolitan regions.
