Abstract

The mental health of pregnant women and mothers with toddlers is an important aspect that requires serious attention because physical, psychological, hormonal, and social changes may trigger the emergence of anxiety. Poorly managed anxiety may lead to negative impacts on maternal health, fetal conditions, and child growth and development. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women and mothers with toddlers regarding anxiety, its signs and symptoms, potential impacts, and simple strategies for managing anxiety. The activity was conducted at Posyandu Loa Bakung Samarinda on April 17, 2026, targeting pregnant women and mothers with toddlers. The methods employed included health education sessions, discussions and question-and-answer activities, demonstrations of deep breathing relaxation techniques, and the distribution of educational media in the form of leaflets and posters. Evaluation was carried out verbally to assess participants’ level of understanding after the activity. The results demonstrated that most participants were able to understand the concept of anxiety, identify its signs and symptoms, comprehend its effects on maternal and child health, and practice simple techniques to reduce anxiety. Furthermore, the activity increased participants’ awareness of the importance of maintaining mental health during pregnancy and child-rearing periods. Therefore, mental health education through posyandu activities can serve as a promotive and preventive effort to improve the quality of maternal and child health within the community.

Abstract

Fever in children is an increase in body temperature caused by infection that requires appropriate management to prevent complications. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used is an Aloe vera compress. This literature review aimed to determine the effectiveness of Aloe vera compress therapy in reducing body temperature in children with fever. The method used was a literature review conducted through article searches in the Google Scholar, PubMed, Garuda, and SINTA databases published between 2021 and 2026. Of the 80 articles identified, 10 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The review results showed that Aloe vera compress therapy was effective in helping reduce children’s body temperature, with temperature reductions ranging from 0.1°C to 2.5°C. The effectiveness was influenced by the child’s condition, the cause of fever, the duration of the intervention, and the area of compress application. The mechanism of Aloe vera compress therapy works through its cooling effect, high water content, and conduction process that facilitates heat transfer from the body. In addition to reducing body temperature, this therapy also improved children’s comfort during fever. Therefore, Aloe vera compress therapy can be used as a safe, natural, and easily applicable supportive non-pharmacological intervention in the management of fever in children.
