Abstract

Peserta kegiatan berjumlah 25 siswa. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif berbasis learning by doing yang meliputi penyuluhan interaktif, demonstrasi, praktik langsung pembuatan reed diffuser aromaterapi herbal, serta evaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Penilaian keterampilan peserta dilakukan melalui observasi selama praktik berlangsung. Abstract This community service activity was motivated by the importance of creating a comfortable and hygienic learning environment as a supporting factor for the concentration, motivation, and psychological well-being of Generation Z students. Observations conducted at SMK Negeri 3 Mataram revealed that several classrooms still felt stuffy due to inadequate ventilation and the low level of students’ literacy regarding the utilization of natural materials to support environmental hygiene. This activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and skills in producing herbal aromatherapy reed diffusers as an effort to create a more comfortable, healthy, and refreshing learning environment. The participants consisted of 50 students. The implementation method employed an educative-participatory approach based on learning by doing, which included interactive counseling sessions, demonstrations, hands-on practice in making herbal aromatherapy reed diffusers, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments. Participants’ skills were assessed through direct observation during the practice sessions. The results showed an improvement in students’ knowledge regarding environmental hygiene and the use of herbal aromatherapy, indicated by a 20% increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. Quantitatively, most participants were able to independently produce reed diffusers according to the procedures taught. Qualitatively, this activity increased students’ awareness of the importance of maintaining a comfortable and clean school environment using natural-based products. The reed diffusers produced were also utilized in classrooms to support a more pleasant and refreshing learning atmosphere. This program provided a creative and practical learning experience and has the potential to be further developed into a simple entrepreneurship activity within the school environment. Keywords: herbal aromatherapy; generation Z; environmental hygiene; reed diffuser; healthy school.

Abstract

The high prevalence of diarrhea and increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics have driven the development of alternative therapies based on medicinal plants. Guava leaves (Psidium guajava) are an ethnomedical plant widely used to treat diarrhea because they contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins that possess antibacterial activity. This study aims to analyze the pharmacological potential of guava leaves and to develop an innovative nanoencapsulation-based formulation as a natural therapy to inhibit bacteria causing diarrhea. The study employed an integrative review and library research approach, with literature searches conducted on Google Scholar, Scopus, DOAJ, SciSpace, Elicit, and Scite.ai covering the years 2015–2025. The results of the study indicate that guava leaf extract exhibits antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli with an average inhibition zone of 12–18 mm. The use of nanoencapsulation technology is reported to enhance the stability, bioavailability, and antibacterial efficacy of the extract compared to conventional methods. It is concluded that the integration of ethnomedical knowledge with nanoencapsulation technology has the potential to produce innovative herbal formulations that are more effective as alternative therapies for the treatment of diarrhea.
