Abstract

This study examines the correlation between empathy and bullying behavior among students at SMP Ma’arif 1 Metro. Bullying in school environments has become an increasing concern due to its negative impact on students’ psychological well-being. Previous studies suggest that empathy plays a crucial role in shaping social behavior; however, empirical findings regarding its relationship with bullying remain inconsistent. Employing a quantitative approach, this study involved a population of 321 students, with a sample of 178 students selected for analysis. Data were collected using validated instruments, including a 10-item empathy scale and a 15-item bullying behavior scale. Due to non-normal data distribution (p = 0.019), the analysis was conducted using Spearman's rank correlation. The findings reveal that both empathy and bullying behavior are at a moderate level, and there is a significant but weak positive correlation between the two variables (rₛ = 0.268, p < 0.05). This result indicates a complex relationship between empathy and bullying behavior, suggesting that other psychological or social factors may influence this association. These findings highlight the importance of considering multiple factors in developing interventions to reduce bullying, rather than focusing solely on enhancing empathy

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial phase in identity formation that requires optimal psychological well-being. Career decision-making is one of the key factors influencing this condition. This study aims to examine the effect of career decision-making on adolescents' psychological well-being and to investigate the role of parental involvement as a moderating variable. A quantitative approach with correlational design and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) was employed. Participants were 118 twelfth-grade students at MA Darul A'mal, Metro City, selected through purposive sampling. Instruments included the career decision scale, parental involvement scale, and psychological well-being scale. Results showed that: (1) career decision-making had a significant positive effect on psychological well-being (B = 0.524; sig. = 0.000); (2) parental involvement significantly moderated the relationship between career decision-making and psychological well-being (B interaction = 1.822; sig. = 0.009); (3) simultaneously, the variables explained 53.7% of the variance in psychological well-being. These findings imply the importance of career guidance programs that integrate parental involvement to enhance adolescent psychological well-being.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effect of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) group counseling using cognitive defusion techniques to increase students' self-confidence at Sunan Ampel Punggur Middle School. Adolescents' low self-confidence is a critical issue in education, considering that puberty is a sensitive period for forming self-concept. The decreasing self-confidence in junior high school students can be seen in withdrawn behavior, difficulty interacting socially, and the inability to express one's potential optimally. The research used a true-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. From a population of 103 students, a sample of 14 students was selected through purposive sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received group counseling intervention for 6 meetings. The research instrument is a questionnaire with 19 items that have been tested for validity (rcount 0.499-0.612 > rtable 0.497) and reliability (Cronbach's Alpha X=0.850; Y=0.735). Data analysis used the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's Test of homogeneity, and paired sample t-test. Cognitive defusion techniques are focused on helping students not become over-identified with negative thoughts, allowing them to take a more objective perspective on internal experiences. The results showed a significant difference in the experimental group (t=16.644; p=0.000<0.05) with an increase in scores from 52.29 to 86.71, while the control group did not show a significant change (t=0.669; p=0.528>0.05). In conclusion, CBT group counseling with cognitive defusion techniques effectively increases junior high school students' self-confidence through mechanisms for separating themselves from negative thoughts, developing adaptive thinking patterns, and strengthening personal competence.

Abstract

Aggressive behavior among students in Islamic boarding schools influenced by seniority culture has become a serious problem requiring systematic intervention. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling using a behavioral approach with modeling technique in reducing aggressive behavior among students at Walisongo Islamic Boarding School. A quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest design was employed. Twenty male students from Sunan Kalijogo dormitory identified as having aggressive behavior tendencies were selected through purposive sampling based on the Buss Aggression Scale screening. The sample was divided into an experimental group (n = 10) and a control group (n = 10). The experimental group received four behavioral group counseling sessions using modeling technique, each lasting 45 minutes, while the control group received no treatment. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 with Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's Test for homogeneity, paired-sample t-test, and independent-sample t-test with Welch's correction. Results showed a significant decrease in aggressive behavior scores after the intervention (t(19) = -19.965, p < 0.001), with a pretest mean of 60.45 (SD = 7.13) and posttest mean of 96.75 (SD = 3.14). These findings confirm that behavioral group counseling with modeling technique is effective in reducing aggressive behavior among students influenced by seniority culture.
