Abstract

This study aims to formulate efforts to revitalize the cultural heritage of the Dayak Ngaju through the development of the traditional Mandau weapon design incorporating the Djata motif. The Mandau weapon is an essential part of the cultural identity of the Dayak people, passed down from generation to generation. Amid the currents of modernization, efforts to preserve and revitalize local culture, including traditional weapon design, are necessary to prevent the loss of its cultural significance and philosophical values. This research examines the historical and aesthetic aspects of the Mandau, integrating the Djata motif as a symbol of protection and strength. The method includes an interview with a Mandau weapon craftsman, documentation, and a visual analysis of traditional Dayak motifs. The results indicate that the Djata motif in the Mandau design can strengthen cultural values and enrich the traditional art repertoire of Dayak Ngaju.

Abstract

This community service program focuses on the issues of low competency among teachers at SDN 7 Pahandut in utilizing digital technology for dance education, as well as the limited availability of interactive learning materials. This initiative aims to integrate digital media into the teaching of Central Kalimantan Dayak creative dance through training, mentoring, and classroom implementation. The solutions provided include outreach on the use of digital media, training in the creation of learning materials such as dance movement tutorial videos, learning modules, and accompanying music, as well as their application in the learning process. The implementation method uses a participatory approach through the stages of needs identification, design, media development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in teachers’ digital competencies, as indicated by a rise in pre-test to post-test scores of approximately 31 points (from 52.6 to 83.6). Additionally, the project produced outputs such as digital-based dance learning modules, video tutorials of various dance movements, and videos of Dayak creative dance that can be used sustainably. This program also increased student engagement in learning. Thus, this activity effectively improved the quality of technology-based arts education and has the potential to be replicated in other elementary schools.

Abstract

Local wisdom is a vital foundation for social cohesion, cultural identity, and community resilience amid globalization. In Central Kalimantan, Dayak values are embodied in Bumi Tambun Bungai, rooted in the Huma Betang philosophy. While prior studies highlight it as a symbol of social harmony, research on its practical manifestation in contemporary community life remains limited. This study explores how the noble values of Tambun Bungai manifest in socio-cultural practices and examines their transformation in modern life. Using a qualitative approach with cultural and social ethnography design, data were collected through observations, interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis. Findings reveal that Tambun Bungai’s values persist in community life, expressed through courage, moral integrity, religious adherence, honesty, social care, mutual cooperation, sincerity, sacrifice, work ethic, educational pursuit, and love for homeland and cultural identity. These values are actualized in social solidarity, inter-community tolerance, and collective cultural participation. The study concludes that Tambun Bungai represents living values adaptable to social change while reinforcing social cohesion and cultural identity in Central Kalimantan.
