Abstract This article aims to analyze Taḥa Ḥusayn's criticism of pre-Islamic poetry, the methods he used in his criticism, and his contribution to literary studies. The researcher used a descriptive approach to analyze several texts from the opinions of scholars published in books. The data was collected using a library research method or book survey. The data was then classified and interpreted using deductive and inductive analysis. Taḥa Ḥusayn followed the path of Orientalists in most of his views on pre-Islamic poetry, even questioning the value of pre-Islamic literature. He also sought to revive Arab cultural production and revolutionize and renew it through his call. Before criticizing the poetry of any poet, Taḥa Ḥusayn called for knowing the poet's personality and understanding the environment in which he lived. These are the circumstances surrounding the poet that affect his poetry. Therefore, there is something very important in criticism, which is the artistic pleasure of enjoying the text. Regardless of the controversies surrounding this writer, we should not forget that he was a great writer, even known as the Dean of Literature. This title is only given to the best of people. This is what arouses the need to review the contribution of this writer to literary studies, which his previous scholars did not pay attention to or mentioned only a small part of it.

Abstract

Indonesiaalyoum.com is the first Indonesian news portal to provide news in Arabic, offering comprehensive information about Indonesia to the Arab and Islamic nations. However, there is no previous study on journalistic language on this website. This research is providing significant academic and practical contributions to Islamic studies. Academically, it deepens the knowledge of Arabic journalistic practices in Indonesia, discloses how Islamic and national issues are represented. Practically, it entails a roadmap for Muslim communicators to productize ethical and effective headlines, translate news, offer editorial advice, and foster media literacy among Muslim readers. The study represents a notable advancement in Islamic social science as it addresses an issue of cross-cultural communication and media ethics through the lens of linguistic analysis of Arabic-language news headlines within the wider frameworks of intercultural communication and media ethics in Islamic contexts. Working in the area where Arab and Indonesian Muslim cultures meet, Indonesiaalyoum.com is not only a source of information but also a means of cross-cultural engagement in the global Muslim society. The method utilized in this study is descriptive research with an error analysis technique using semantic and syntactic analysis. The process began with collecting data, which consisted of 25 articles from January to June 2024, making notes, and then analysing it using semantical and syntactical approaches. The results of the research can be concluded that the articles on Indonesia.com are based on two main sources: journalist correspondence and translations of other publications. The translated news source is particularly mentioned at the end of the articles, which are published until February 15, 2024. Afterwards, some subsequent publications implied it tacitly. This study also identified errors in the use of journalistic language, including spelling errors, mistranslations, and misinformation. In addition, the most common translation technique employed in these articles is the literal translation.

Abstract

Existing studies on Jamaluddin Al-Afgani and Muhammad Abduh have mostly stayed at the level of biography, examining their life histories and theological reform separately, rather than connecting their activism to the twin frameworks of nationalism and religious moderatism (wasatiyyah) as these unfolded together in colonial Egypt. This paper goes beyond biography by reading Al-Afgani and Abduh's joint contribution to nation-revival and religious moderation as a single, unified reform strategy, using a qualitative literature-study method that reads their biographical record against the conceptual lenses of anti-colonial nationalism and Qur'anic wasatiyyah. The study finds that the spirit of Al-Afgani's movement contributed to the revival of the community movement for independence and the development of science and literature in Egypt through three interlocking means: preparing the right environment by arousing religious values and nationalism, writing political articles in language that was beautiful yet easy to digest, and producing students who became prominent movers and writers in Egypt. Abduh himself was active in social and political movements, both through party participation and through writings that ignited the spirit of nationalism, while in the religious sphere he called for understanding Islamic law from its main sources while practicing moderation, anchored in his interpretation of the four guidances (hidayah) in surah al-Fatihah. The paper concludes that nationalism and moderatism are best understood not as two separate outcomes of two separate biographies but as two faces of one unified reform strategy.

Abstract

This article examines the urgency and transformation of Arabic language digitalization in strengthening public diplomacy (soft power) and facilitating cross-cultural communication in the era of digital disruption. Arabic, with more than 400 million speakers and its status as one of the six official languages of the United Nations, is no longer understood merely as an instrument of religious ritual but has evolved into a strategic medium within international geopolitical discourse. Nevertheless, a striking paradox emerges: although the number of Arabic-speaking internet users has grown rapidly since the early 2000s, the proportion of Arabic-language content in the global digital sphere remains far behind, with various estimates placing it at only 1 to 5 percent of total web content worldwide. Employing a descriptive-analytical qualitative method grounded in systematic library research of 20 primary and secondary sources published between 2004 and 2026, this study analyzes three aspects: (1) the role of digital technology and artificial intelligence in strengthening the Arab world's public diplomacy, (2) the contribution of digitalization to more inclusive cross-cultural communication, and (3) the structural challenges hindering the optimization of this role. The findings indicate that the use of digital platforms, Arabic-language media such as Al Jazeera, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology has expanded the reach of narratives and intercivilizational dialogue; however, their effectiveness remains constrained by the digital content gap and linguistic complexity arising from the diglossia between Fusha (Modern Standard Arabic) and Ammiyah (colloquial dialects). This article recommends strengthening cross-sector collaboration among governments, academics, and technology developers to address this gap.
