Abstract

Pengaruh Rasio Campuran Silase Tithonia diversifolia dan Panicum maximum terhadap Kandungan Senyawa Antinutrisi: Asam Fitat, Tanin, dan Asam Oksalat: Effect of Tithonia diversifolia and Panicum maximum silage ratio on the content of antinutritional compounds: Phytic Acid, Tannins, and Oxalic Acid Dwi Ananta; Fadilla Meidita; Nadia Rahma; Nurazizah Ramadhanti; Yudha Endra Pratama

Abstract

Ketersediaan hijauan segar sebagai pakan ruminansia bersifat musiman, sehingga diperlukan teknologi pengawetan seperti silase untuk menjamin kontinuitas pakan. Tithonia diversifolia memiliki kandungan nutrisi tinggi namun mengandung senyawa antinutrisi, sementara Panicum maximum dikenal rendah antinutrisi.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen a farmer group's capacity to manage communal pasture and to utilize preserved rice straw as an alternative feed to improve cattle production and reproductive performance. The scope of activities included participatory assistance in pasture rehabilitation and hands-on training on the preparation and application of preserved rice straw. A participatory approach was applied through training sessions, field practice, and continuous mentoring involving all group members. The program activities comprised pasture rehabilitation through land preparation, weed control, and the replanting of forage grasses and leguminous species, as well as the adoption of preserved rice straw in daily feeding practices. The program's impacts were evaluated collaboratively through observations and records on participants’ satisfaction and program mastery, pasture conditions, and cattle performance before and after implementation. The results showed improved pasture management, reflected by reduced weed dominance and increased forage availability, as well as better feed continuity during the dry season. The application of preserved rice straw improved body condition, weight gain, and reproductive indicators in cattle. In conclusion, the community service effectively enhanced the farmer group's capacity for pasture rehabilitation, combined with preserved rice straw feeding, resulting in better cattle growth and reproductive performance.

Abstract

Quail are egg-producing poultry known for their highly nutritious eggs and affordable price, making them popular among the general public. However, challenges in quail farming lie in feed efficiency and improving egg quality. One effort to address these challenges is the use of natural feed additives, such as moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) and bilimbi fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.), which have potential as sources of natural antioxidants and bioactive compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of moringa leaf powder supplementation in the feed, combined with bilimbi fruit extract in drinking water, on quail egg quality. The study used 180 female quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) aged 20 weeks, in a feeding trial using a 2 × 3 factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The treatments consisted of two levels of moringa leaf powder (0% and 3%) and three levels of bilimbi extract (0%, 2.5%, and 5%), with three replications each. Observed parameters included egg weight, egg index, albumen index, yolk index, and Haugh Unit value. The analysis showed no significant interaction between moringa leaf and bilimbi extract supplementation on egg weight and egg index (P>0.05). These findings suggest that moringa leaf inclusion in feed has the potential to improve egg weight, although its effectiveness is influenced by dosage and interaction with other additives.
