Abstract

Depression is psychosomatic disorder are common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Correlated with morbidity and mortality associated with chronic inflammation in patients, that characterized by elevated levels of plasma cytokines, especially interleukin (IL)-6. Objective: To investigate the correlation of depressive symptoms with IL-6 levels in patients with CKD who underwent regular HD. Methods: One hundred and 29 CKD patients were enrolled in this cross- sectional study. All eligible patients were screened for IL-6 level. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) II questioner were then given to determine the presence of depression. Level of IL-6 was then correlated with BDI score using Spearman test. Result: The mean BDI score was 19,32 ± 6,18 indicating the level of mild depression symptoms, and the mean IL-6 level (8,697 ± 6,947 pg/mL) was still within normal range. There was a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.417) between the level of depressive symptoms and IL- 6 levels. Conclusion: There was a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.417) between IL-6 levels and depressive symptoms in patient with HD. However, mean IL-6 levels in depressive patients are still within normal limits indicating that the cause of depression is multifactorial.

Abstract

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, attempts have been made to provide acquired immunity against COVID-19. Monitoring and evaluating the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 vaccine is an important process that must always be carried out in order to optimize the control of the spread of COVID-19 infection. This study aimed to provide an overview of the status of COVID-19 vaccination in patients infected with COVID-19 at the Royal Prima General Hospital, Medan, Indonesia. This study was a descriptive observational study. A total of 100 subjects participated in this study. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25 in a univariate manner. The majority of patients who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 only experience mild symptoms of COVID-19. The majority of vaccine brands used by confirmed COVID-19 patients are Sinovac. The majority of patients who have received 2 doses of vaccination are still at risk of being infected with COVID-19. The majority of patients who received the COVID-19 vaccination experienced a low clinical degree when infected with COVID-19.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of acupressure on the fatigue level of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This research method is a quasi-experimental method with a pretest design and a post-test non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique is a non-probability sampling technique, namely the convenience sampling method. Respondents to this study were cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the H. Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan, consisting of 32 respondents for the intervention group and 32 respondents for the control group. The fatigue measurement instrument uses the Brief Fatigue Inventory. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-Square, and logistic regression. The results showed that the p-value <0.05 and there was no effect of age, anemia, chemotherapy cycles, and cancer stage on the level of fatigue in cancer patients. In conclusion, it is known that acupressure is effective in reducing the level of fatigue in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and is recommended as an independent nursing intervention to reduce fatigue in cancer patients. Abstract

Stunting is a condition where there is a growth disorder in a child caused by a lack of intake of both macronutrients and micronutrients. A mother is an individual who is very close to a child regarding the growth and development of the child. This study aimed to determine the relationship between mother’s knowledge and the incidence of stunting in children at the Bromo Public Health Center, Medan Denai, Indonesia. Cross-sectional analytic observational study. A total of 62 respondents who were mothers of children aged 36-60 months were included in this study. Data analysis was carried out with the help of SPSS software in a univariate and bivariate to determine the relationship between mother’s knowledge and the incidence of stunting. The majority of children with stunting nutritional status have mothers with poor knowledge regarding nutritional intake. In conclusion, there is a statistical relationship between the mother's knowledge and the incidence of stunting in children, with p <0.05.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease are related to inflammation and stress levels therefore depression is a predictor that will increase the morbidity and mortality of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Method: This research is an analytical study with a cross-sectional design which carried out in Januari until February 2023, at Hemodialysis Installation of RSUP. H. Adam Malik. To analyze the correlation between the Depression Level and Red Blood Cell Distribution Width (RDW) and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), the Pearson correlation test was used if the data was normally distributed. If the data is not normally distributed, Spearman's correlation test is performed. Statistical analysis using 95% confidence level (p<0.05). Results: In this research, demographic characteristics of 85 patients with mean age of the patients was 49.56 years old with a standard deviation of 13.46. Based on Spearman rho test it was found that there was a significant correlation between RDW and the BDI II score with p value 0.003. The degree of correlation or r value was 0.318. This indicates that there is a weak correlation between the RDW score and the BD II score. Based on Pearson test it was found that there was a significant correlation between ESR and the BDI II score with p value 0.009. The degree of correlation or r value was 0.280. This indicates that there is a weak correlation between the ESR value and the BD II score. Conclusion: Level of depression were found to be correlated with Red Blood Cell Distribution Width (RDW) and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) in CKD patients whose undergoing regular hemodialysis.
