Abstract

The research focuses on resolving production floor problems which affect an electronics manufacturing facility that produces stabilizers and starters and casings by using a job-shop production system. The lack of structured layout design has caused materials to travel through long routes which also require multiple returns across all three product manufacturing lines. The facility layout received its redesign through Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and the BLOCPLAN algorithm. The research team used From-to Chart (FTC) and Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) and Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD) and Space Relationship Diagram (SRD) tools to develop three different layouts which they assessed by measuring total distance and backtracking distance and backtracking percentage. Proposed Layout 3 achieved better results than the original layout by reducing material movement distance by 36.35 meters and backtracking distance by 25.08 meters and backtracking percentage by 7.73 percent which showed the value of the SLP–BLOCPLAN framework for multi-product manufacturing facilities.

Abstract

Workforce sourcing, the process by which outsourcing and gig-economy intermediaries recruit job applicants for client firms, lacks standardized capability metrics that are comparable to those used in manufacturing quality control. This technical case study reports the design, implementation, and critical evaluation of a Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) procedure used to establish provisional sourcing-speed benchmarks (pessimistic, average, optimistic) for an Indonesian human-resource outsourcing platform, stratified by province and job category. Because most province–job-type strata contained fewer than ten observations (range 1–19), a Chebyshev-inequality-based trimming rule was adopted instead of parametric three-sigma control limits, automated through Excel VBA for scalability. Results show that benchmark reliability is highly stratum-dependent: only the highest-volume stratum (n = 19) yielded values interpretable with reasonable confidence, while low-volume strata produced control bands too wide for operational use. This paper discusses why a fixed 2-standard-deviation trim is a weaker foundation than sample-size-adjusted alternatives recently proposed in the outlier-detection literature, and outlines the validation and data-aggregation work still required before such benchmarks can be deployed as genuine capability limits.

Abstract

This paper presents a community service initiative designed to enhance supply chain literacy through a workshop titled "Global Networking: Sustainable Innovation in Supply Chain." The activity, held in October 2024, targeted undergraduate students and young professionals in logistics and operations management, with a focus on omnichannel strategies, procurement innovation, and sustainability. The community's need stemmed from limited exposure to current trends in supply chain innovation and the increasing demand for competencies aligned with green and digital transformation. The service was structured around interactive sessions, case study discussions, and participant feedback. Outcomes demonstrated improved understanding of sustainable practices, increased awareness of procurement partnerships, and stronger participant engagement. Reflections reveal the potential scalability of this model to other institutions and local communities. The program contributes not only to knowledge dissemination but also to sustainable human capital development in the logistics sector.

Abstract

This paper reports on a community service program designed to enhance students' and early-career professionals' understanding of intelligent supply chain performance measurement. The workshop was undertaken on 26 November 2022, with anticipation of increased demand for skills and competency in lean, agile, sustainable, and digitally enabled supply chains. It utilized qualitative and quantitative performance measures, intelligent supply chain, and Industry 4.0. The program developed an interactive learning strategy based on lectures, case studies, and feedback. Evaluations conducted by participants indicated a significant increase in knowledge, with over 85 percent reporting an increased readiness to use performance measurement frameworks. Overall, the results indicate that this approach is scalable for more community engagement and can assist in developing a sustainable workforce for an innovative-ready supply chain.
