Abstract

Vocational education and training has emerged as the cornerstone of Switzerland's workforce readiness strategy, with the country maintaining one of the lowest youth unemployment rates globally through a distinctive dual-track system that integrates workplace practice with classroom instruction. This study examines the mechanisms, outcomes, and challenges of Switzerland's vocational education and training system, drawing upon national policy frameworks, institutional case studies, and empirical evidence from employer surveys and graduate outcome data. Switzerland's approach is distinguished by the collective governance model involving the Confederation, cantons, and professional organisations; the predominance of dual-track apprenticeships engaging approximately 90% of upper-secondary VET students; the systematic alignment of training content with actual labour market demand across approximately 250 recognised occupations; and the high degree of permeability enabling vertical and horizontal progression between vocational and academic pathways. The research identifies four critical success factors: strong public-private partnerships with employer ownership of training content, nationally standardised yet locally adaptable competency-based curricula, the integration of general education within vocational programmes, and comprehensive support systems for at-risk learners including two-year programmes and case management. Findings indicate that Swiss VET generates positive cost-benefit ratios for training companies, produces graduates with qualifications that are nationally recognised and internationally comparable through the National Qualifications Framework, and maintains strong social prestige comparable to academic pathways. However, persistent challenges include regional variation in programme prevalence, the need for continuous curriculum updating to reflect technological change, emerging prestige differentials favouring academic education, and the gendered nature of apprenticeship placements. The study concludes that Switzerland's VET model offers a replicable framework for workforce readiness that other nations can adapt, while highlighting the necessity of employer engagement, governance coherence, and sustained investment in maintaining the currency and prestige of vocational qualifications.

Abstract

This research aims to identify problems that arise in the implementation of teaching modules in the Independent Curriculum at MTs Al-Islam Joresan Ponorogo. In an era of increasingly selective education, the quality of education is a matter of great concern, including in the management of the curriculum and teaching modules. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The research results show that teachers experience difficulties in developing teaching modules that are effective and in accordance with the principles of the Independent Curriculum, especially in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile (P5). These challenges include suboptimal understanding of the new curriculum, limited resources, and variations in the level of difficulty of the material taught. To overcome this, it is recommended that seminars, mentoring and group discussions be held to strengthen teachers' understanding in developing relevant and contextual teaching modules. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the preparation of better teaching modules that suit the needs of students.

Abstract

This paper examines social media-based public relations strategies in the development of SMK Nurul Jadid to increase student participation. Driven by the challenges of low enrollment and lack of school visibility, this paper aims to analyze the implementation of public relations strategies through digital platforms, their impact on increasing student enrollment, and the role of social media in enhancing student engagement. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with school officials, participant observation of the school's social media activity, and social media content analysis. The results indicate that SMK Nurul Jadid utilizes Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok to build a positive image, attract prospective students, and collaborate with stakeholders. Published content focuses on school activities, student achievements, and available facilities. However, this paper identifies challenges in consistent content creation due to limited resources. The implications of this paper emphasize the importance of a structured social media management program, training the management team, using alumni testimonials, and regular evaluations. This paper concludes that social media-based public relations strategies have significant potential to increase student participation and strengthen the school's branding, but require more structured and consistent management.

Abstract

This article examines the legal position of the 1949 Geneva Conventions in resolving contemporary international conflicts. It analyzes the Conventions as the central treaty framework of international humanitarian law and evaluates their continuing relevance in international and non-international armed conflicts, asymmetric warfare, cyber operations, autonomous weapons, occupation, detention, and civilian protection. Using a normative juridical and qualitative literature-based method, the study examines treaty provisions, international legal principles, judicial practice, ICRC materials, and scholarly literature. The analysis shows that the Geneva Conventions remain legally authoritative because their core principles have been reinforced by customary international law, Additional Protocols, international criminal law, and domestic implementation. Their principal weakness is not legal irrelevance, but decentralized enforcement, political selectivity, uncertain classification of conflicts, and technological change. The article argues that the Conventions remain indispensable, but their effectiveness depends on good-faith implementation, Common Article 1 obligations, independent monitoring, national prosecution, international accountability, and contextual interpretation of existing rules.
