Abstract

This study investigated the impact of complementary cupping therapy on immunity changes, specifically interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels, in coastal fishermen with hypertension. Forty participants, aged 20-50 years, were randomly allocated to either a cupping therapy intervention group or a placebo group. Blood pressure, pulse rate, and IL-10 levels were measured before and two weeks after the intervention. The cupping therapy procedure followed a six-step protocol, including informed consent, equipment preparation, point selection, scarification, and post-treatment care. Data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests. The results showed a significant increase in IL-10 levels (P=0.049) and a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (P<0.05) in the hypertension group receiving cupping therapy. In contrast, no significant changes were observed in the normotensive group. The findings suggest that wet cupping therapy may enhance the immune system by increasing IL-10 levels and lowering blood pressure in hypertensive coastal fishermen. The underlying mechanisms may involve local inflammation, activation of the complement system, increased nitric oxide production, and stimulation of the autonomic nervous system. However, the limited sample size and potential methodological limitations warrant further high-quality trials to confirm these results. The study concludes that wet cupping therapy could serve as a viable complementary treatment for hypertension in fishing communities, but a comprehensive approach considering cultural, religious, and psychological perspectives is necessary to understand its full impact on individuals and society.

Abstract

Abstract

Hypertension is a common non-communicable disease in the fishing population. Complementary cupping therapy can be used as one of the non-pharmacological strategies in preventing hypertension. The purpose of this community service is to improve the community's knowledge and attitude in implementing cupping therapy in preventing hypertension. The methods and approaches of community service include several stages and strategies that are effective in improving public health, namely: Preparation and Coordination; Implementation of Activities, Pre-test and Post-test; counseling and simulation of cupping therapy practice; Evaluation and Monitoring. The results, before counseling and practice, the level of knowledge of participants; sufficient 15%, lacking 85%. After counseling and practice, knowledge; good 30%, sufficient 70%, and lacking 0%. The attitudes of counseling participants after counseling and practice were strongly agree as much as 63.3%, agree as much as 31.67%, and disagree as much as 5%. It is hoped that fishing communities can use Complementary cupping therapy in improving health

Improving public health both physically and psychologically requires a spiritual-based therapeutic approach that is easy, cheap, practical and efficient, one of which is the spiritual therapy of the Qur'an, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The holistic nursing perspective makes the nursing profession view a person as a complete biopsychosocial being physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually who are interrelated and influence one another. This literature review aims to provide an overview of scientific studies on the effects and benefits of the spiritual health of Al-Qur'an therapy as physical and psychological treatment in improving public health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology of literature review by searching biomedical databases on Medline, Embase, PsychINFO, Scopus, Pubmed, and Google Scholar, all research articles and literature reviews were included as search criteria. Data were collected and concluded as a review of scientific narrative writing. There are several categories of results consisting of: description of spiritual health, spiritual health in an Islamic perspective, therapy of the Qur'an, the holy verses of the Qur'an as a healing medicine, physiology of sound therapy of the Qur'an on the hearing system. and brain. The benefits and therapeutic effects of the Qur'an can increase endorphins in the brain, changes in TTV and body physiology, improves autism disorders and stroke disorders, changes in memory, changes in brain waves, changes in physiological responses in the PICU and ICU rooms, reduces anxiety. Spiritual health with Al-Qur'an therapy is the main and important solution in helping to heal physical, mental, spiritual illnesses, and improving public health in facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Smoking can cause chronic hypoxia, increased production of red blood cells, and accompanied by a decrease in plasma volume. Wet cupping therapy is a complementary therapeutic approach that helps to cure disease, balance tissue blood flow, eliminate inflammatory agents and toxins, improve lymph node function and enhance the immune system through the mechanism of blood loss. This study aims to determine the effect of wet cupping therapy on routine blood hematology changes in active smokers. The research was designed using a pre-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test group model. The research was carried out in the PKM Poltekkes building, Ministry of Health Kendari on 26 male respondents aged 20-50 years. The results of the paired t-test statistic showed a significant change in routine blood hematology values ??after wet cupping, this change occurred in the components of WBC, HB, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, with P value < 0.05. Complementary wet cupping therapy is beneficial in restoring the body's balance by strengthening the immune system, eliminating pathogenic factors, and increasing blood circulation. The increase in HB, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC in smokers is the main red blood cell index that helps measure the average size and composition of red blood cell hemoglobin in active smokers.
