Abstract

The community service activity through the Student Community Service Program in Pusakasari Village, Cipaku District, Ciamis Regency, was initiated in response to several local issues such as low educational literacy, limited waste management, underutilized local potential, and lack of innovation in economic and tourism development. This program aimed to improve the community’s quality of life through empowerment based on local potential and active community participation. The method applied was a participatory approach using the Participatory Action Research model involving observation, community discussions, potential mapping, and the implementation of multidisciplinary programs. The results showed increased community awareness of environmental management, enhanced skills of small business owners in product packaging and digital marketing, and improved student motivation through creative educational activities. In addition, the community began to take part in developing Cibayawak Natural Tourism and preserving the SILARIA cultural tradition as a local cultural asset. In conclusion, this program successfully fostered collaboration between the university and the local community in building an independent, healthy, and sustainable village.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was motivated by the low problem-solving ability of fourth-grade students in Social Studies learning at SDN 2 Cigantang, as indicated by only 28.57% of students achieving the Minimum Mastery Criteria on the preliminary test. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students’ problem-solving abilities. The research method used was Classroom Action Research based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 35 fourth-grade students of SDN 2 Cigantang. Data collection techniques included observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model was able to improve students’ problem-solving abilities. The percentage of learning mastery increased from 28.57% in the pre-cycle to 62.86% in Cycle I and reached 91.43% in Cycle II. Therefore, the Problem Based Learning model proved effective in improving students’ problem-solving abilities in Social Studies learning and can be used as an alternative active and student-centered learning model in elementary schools.
