Abstract

The high prevalence of HIV/AIDS and premarital sexual behavior among adolescents is a significant public health concern in Papua. To address this issue, community service activities were conducted through two main programs: training cadres as health educators for HIV/AIDS prevention and premarital sex and cadre-led activities for adolescent health screening and reproductive health education at YPKP Junior High School in Sentani. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. The evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in the cadres' knowledge, which were analyzed with the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score of cadres after the training, from 15.6 to 18. The cadres were able to conduct adolescent screenings and provide counseling sessions. This activity effectively enhanced the capacity of adolescent cadres as agents of change and can be sustainably implemented to support HIV/AIDS and premarital sex prevention efforts in other regions. Keywords:  Adolescents, HIV/AIDS, premarital sex, reproductive health, cadre empowerment

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is a leading fishery commodity in Indonesia, prized for its taste and disease resistance, making it an ideal choice for farming even in areas with limited water and land. The Insanul Kamil Al-Khaer Orphanage in Sidoarjo, as a social foundation, faces challenges in providing productive and educational activities for its residents. Currently, the orphanage offers only worship and basic school activities for the children. To address this, the Community Service Program implemented a solution based on science and technology that would provide additional income, improve nutrition, and offer valuable learning experiences. The Community Service Program introduced the Budikdamber (fish farming in buckets) system, which is simple to set up and does not require extensive land or water. The program was implemented in three stages: preparing the materials, conducting socialization and training, and providing ongoing assistance in managing the catfish cultivation system using Budikdamber with passive circulation technology. After completing one full cycle of cultivation, the Community Service Program showed that the Budikdamber system improved food security, provided a steady income from surplus fish and vegetables, and reduced reliance on external donations. The program also highlighted the educational benefits for the children involved in managing the system. These results confirm the potential of the Budikdamber system to enhance community empowerment and sustainability. The Community Service Program provides a model for replication in other orphanages and community-based institutions. Further Community Service Programs are needed to evaluate the long-term impact and scalability of this innovative approach.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe production value of silver pompano has been increasing annually, with strong market demand both locally and internationally. One significant issue in silver pompano aquaculture is infectious diseases caused by parasites. Water quality, being a critical component of the fish's environment, plays a crucial role in disease occurrence, necessitating effective management practices. This study was conducted at the Center for Mariculture Fisheries (BBPBL) Lampung from July 11 to August 31, 2022, aiming to identify the species, intensity, and methods for examining ectoparasites on silver pompano in floating net cages and to assess water quality management practices that can mitigate the proliferation of parasitic diseases. The methodology employed included direct examination and observation. Ectoparasite assessments at BBPBL Lampung involved scraping the surface of the fish body and mounting the fish gills. The identified ectoparasites in the floating net cages of silver pompano were Pyragraphorus hollisae, Benedenia seriolae, and Neobenedenia girellae. Water quality management in the floating net cages is routinely monitored on a weekly basis. Keywords: BBPBL Lampung, Ectoparasites, Silver Pompano, and Water Quality.

Abstract

Abstract

Pneumonia is an inflamed lung infection. The disease is becoming one of the major problems in global public health due to its significant impact on morbidity and mortality. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can help in handling pneumonia cases is Pursed Lips Breathing Breathing, this technique helps improve lung function, and Chest Physiotherapy helps in removing mucus trapped in the lungs. Objective to analyze the intervention of Pursed Lips Breathing and Chest Physiotherapy therapy to improve airway proficiency in the Emergency Installation Room of Abepura Hospital. This research uses a case study method, data collection is carried out through anamnesis to find out the patient's identity and complaints, observation and physical examination when conducting nursing assessments on patients. The subjects in this study were one Pneumonia patient with respiratory disorders and experienced an increase in respiratory rate (RR) and oxygen saturation. Pursed Lips Breathing and Chest Physiotherapy therapy was administered 1 time during treatment in the emergency room. From this case study, it was found that there was a decrease in respiratory rate (RR) and an increase in pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2), as well as airway proficiency with a decrease in sputum production. The application of innovative interventions needs to be carried out in the emergency room so that patients can control breathing when shortness of breath and when a restrained cough occurs. This intervention showed an improvement in the oxygenation status and airway competence of patients when given Pursed Lips Breathing and Chest Physiotherapy therapy.
