Abstract

Introduction: Occupational accidents among farmers and plantation workers in Indonesia, including white copra workers in Toari District, Kolaka Regency, are a serious problem with high risks due to exposure to hazardous chemicals, the use of machinery, and unsafe working conditions. Although occupational health and safety are very important, they are often neglected, resulting in high rates of accidents, injuries, and illnesses, and negatively impacting worker health and productivity. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of health promotion using leaflet media in increasing knowledge, attitudes, and actions regarding occupational health and safety among white copra workers in the Toari District, Kolaka Regency. Method: Quantitative research using a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach on two groups of randomly selected subjects totaling 40 respondents using a cluster random sampling technique. Result: This study demonstrated that video media was more effective than leaflets in improving the knowledge, attitudes, and preventive actions of white copra workers. Measurements were conducted before and after the intervention to evaluate changes in occupational health and safety behavior. Conclusion: Leaflets can improve the knowledge, attitudes, and preventive measures of white coconut workers in Toari District. It is recommended that the Health Department provide training to health workers and encourage workers to actively participate in health promotion.

Abstract

Introduction: Smoking is one of the most difficult habits for adolescents to stop. The prevalence of smoking among students in Kolaka Regency is reported to be 48%. Smoking behavior among adolescents can be influenced by several factors, including policy and social environment. This study aims to analyze the relationship between policy and social environment and smoking habits among high school students in Kolaka Regency. Method: The study was conducted in August 2024 in three high schools in Kolaka Regency. The population consisted of 810 students, with a sample of 268 respondents selected using cluster random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test and binary logistic regression. Result: Shows the Chi-Square test of policy (p value 0.000, ⱷ -0.401). Social environment (p value 0.000, ⱷ -0.449) on smoking habits among high school students in Kolaka district, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Conclusion: Policies and social environments are related to students' smoking habits, so schools need to hold regular outreach programs about the dangers of smoking in the form of seminars, discussions, or screenings of educational films.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a significant global public health problem, particularly impacting the physical growth and cognitive development of children under five. Indonesia, including Southeast Sulawesi Province, continues to face a high prevalence of stunting. In the Benua Community Health Center work area, more than 30% of children experience stunting, necessitating a behavioral-focused study. This is what drew researchers to investigate the Perception of Benefits and Barriers to Feeding in relation to Stunting in the Benua Community Health Center area. Method: This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlative analytical design and a cross-sectional model. The sampling technique uses cluster random sampling. The HBM constructs analyzed include perceived vulnerability, perceived seriousness, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Result: The analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between the incidence of stunting and the perception of obstacles (p = 0.367), but there was a significant relationship between the perception of seriousness and the incidence of stunting (p = 0.036). Conclusion: Perceived benefits and barriers to feeding are not associated with stunting. However, both factors have the potential to be protective, so education should focus on increasing maternal motivation by reinforcing the benefits of appropriate feeding practices and addressing the barriers encountered.

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of underweight in toddlers in the Molino Community Health Center mining area increased sharply from 9.98% (2023) to 15.32% (2024), exceeding the national target of 12% and reflecting a serious nutritional crisis in North Morowali Regency which also increased from 6.41% to 13.24%. This condition differs from the stability of the national prevalence of around 16.29%, indicating a specific problem in the mining area related to the imbalance of macro and micro nutrient intake. This study aims to macronutrient and micronutrient intake as determinants of underweight among toddlers in toddlers at the Molino Community Health Center, North Morowali Regency. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a case-control matching design of toddlers in the Molino Community Health Center area from April to June. A sample of 186 toddlers (93 underweight, 93 with normal nutrition) was selected from a population of 1,253 children using the Slovin formula and cluster random sampling. Result: The results of the analysis showed that there was an influence of limited access to health services with OR=1.729, while the most dominant factors were the influence of macronutrient intake (OR=4.912; CI 95%: 2.635–9.159) and the influence of micronutrient intake (OR=4.013; CI 95%: 2.179–7.390) on the nutritional status of toddlers. Conclusion: The analysis model shows that the variation in nutritional status is quite good, it is recommended to carry out family-based nutritional interventions, increase education for parents, and strengthen community economic empowerment programs through integrated promotive and preventive services at the Community Health Center.
