Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) Program is a government initiative implemented through Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi/SPPG) to provide nutritious meals for beneficiaries. Food safety in this program is influenced by work environment sanitation and vector control, particularly flies as potential biological contaminants. This study aimed to describe the work environment sanitation and fly density levels at Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in Manado City in 2026. A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted involving 13 SPPGs selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observations of work environment sanitation based on the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation Number 2 of 2023 and fly density measurements using the fly grill method at four observation points, namely the main entrance, portioning and packaging area, reusable meal container (ompreng) washing area, and temporary waste storage (TPS) area. The results showed that all SPPGs (100%) met the required work environment sanitation standards, with sanitation scores ranging from 81.40% to 95.35%, although several building and sanitation facility indicators still did not meet the established requirements. The highest fly density was observed in the temporary waste storage area with an average of 8.4 flies per grill, while the lowest was recorded in the portioning and packaging area with an average of 0. It can be concluded that the work environment sanitation at SPPGs in Manado City generally complied with the required standards; however, improvements in several sanitation aspects and strengthened fly control measures are still necessary to support food safety in the implementation of the MBG Program.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are common occupational health problems experienced by workers due to non-ergonomic working postures. Workers in household tofu production industries perform various manual activities, such as lifting soybean sacks, carrying water-filled buckets, pouring soybeans into grinding machines, and working in prolonged bending and standing positions. These activities may increase the risk of MSD complaints and affect workers’ health and productivity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between working posture and Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) complaints among workers in household tofu production industries in Kleak and Batu Kota Villages, Malalayang District, Manado City. This study used an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 34 workers selected using total sampling. Working posture was assessed using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, while MSD complaints were measured using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that all respondents were male, with the majority aged 17–25 years. Most workers had high to very high working posture risk based on the REBA assessment. Based on the NMQ, most workers experienced severe MSD complaints, particularly in the right wrist, right shoulder, and lower back. Activities most frequently associated with complaints included transporting soybeans and lifting buckets or basins of water. The Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between working posture and MSD complaints. It can be concluded that non-ergonomic working postures are associated with increased MSD complaints. Ergonomic improvements, appropriate work aids, facility adjustments, and ergonomic education are needed to reduce the risk of MSDs among workers.

Abstract

Sleep quality is a person's level of satisfaction and the extent to which a person gets enough sleep according to their needs. Poor sleep quality can trigger various problems at work, potentially leading to workplace accidents. Sleep disturbances and poor sleep quality are common among nurses, impacting their well-being and performance. High work stress and a challenging work environment are the main contributing factors to problems with sleep quality. Occupational stress has a significant role in affecting a person's sleep quality. High levels of stress can disrupt sleep patterns and decrease the quality of rest, thus impacting health. A YouGov survey in 2023, revealed that most adults in various countries, including Indonesia, still do not achieve ideal sleep hours. This study aims to analyze the relationship between work stress and sleep quality in nurses at the inpatient installation of Advent Hospital Manado. This study used analytic observational research with cross sectional study design. The population in this study were nurses working in the inpatient installation of Advent Hospital Manado with a total sample of 73 people with the sampling method used was total sampling. The results of the Spearman Rank test showed a significant relationship between work stress and sleep quality (p = 0.003 < α = 0.05), the correlation coefficient value (r) = 0.348 which is included in the weak category with a positive correlation direction (+). Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between work stress and sleep quality in nurses at the inpatient installation of Advent Hospital Manado.

Abstract

Food safety in the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) is influenced by the implementation of workplace hygiene and sanitation. Poor sanitation conditions may promote the presence of flies as mechanical vectors carrying bacteria, thereby increasing the risk of food contamination. This study aimed to describe workplace hygiene and sanitation conditions and the presence of bacteria on flies in SPPGs in Manado City. This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Workplace hygiene and sanitation were assessed using an observation checklist based on the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation (Permenkes) No. 2 of 2023. Fly samples were collected using fly traps and identified through isolation on MacConkey Agar, followed by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and BLAST analysis. The results showed that the hygiene and sanitation compliance rates were 86.7% at SPPG X and 90.0% at SPPG Y. Gram-negative bacterial growth was detected only in fly samples collected from SPPG Y. BLASTN analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the isolates exhibited 100% sequence identity with the species complexes Klebsiella pneumoniae/Klebsiella variicola and Providencia rettgeri/Providencia hangzhouensis. In conclusion, the hygiene and sanitation conditions at both SPPGs met most of the required standards, although several aspects still require improvement. The presence of Gram-negative bacteria on flies indicates that flies have the potential to act as mechanical vectors carrying bacteria within food processing environments
