Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a handmade workshop as an effort to develop the creativity of inmates at the Class III Rangkasbitung Correctional Institution. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation involving inmates who participated in the handmade workshop. The results showed that the handmade workshop was implemented through direct practice methods, starting from the introduction of tools and materials to the practice of making handicrafts. This activity was able to increase the active involvement of inmates and develop their creativity through more diverse handicraft products. In addition, the workshop also had a positive impact on inmates’ self-confidence, motivation, and participation in other development activities. Supporting factors included support from the correctional institution and the enthusiasm of the inmates, while the obstacles encountered were limited tools, materials, and implementation time. Therefore, the handmade workshop can serve as an effective skills development program in enhancing the creativity and self-potential of inmates.

Abstract

This study examines the role of storytelling intervention on the sense of self and psychological well-being of inmates at Rangkasbitung III Penitentiary. Inmates often experience psychological stress, social stigma, guilt, and difficulty in rebuilding their identity during their sentence. Therefore, this study aims to explore how storytelling can be a medium for emotional expression, self-reflection, and identity reconstruction in inmates. This study applies a descriptive qualitative approach involving ten inmates who were selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation during the storytelling activity, then analyzed using thematic analysis to identify themes related to emotional catharsis, self-awareness, and resilience development. The results showed that storytelling helped participants express sadness, regret, and heartache regarding life experiences and criminal acts they had committed. This activity also helped inmates reflect on life experiences, rebuild their sense of self, and develop a more positive outlook on the future. In addition, storytelling created a supportive atmosphere that encouraged emotional openness and psychological adaptation of participants. This study concludes that storytelling has potential as a psychosocial rehabilitation approach to support the psychological well-being and identity transformation of inmates in correctional settings.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the entrepreneurial independence of inmates through partnership-based development programs at Class III Rangkasbitung Correctional Institution. Work development programs serve as a form of social rehabilitation intended to improve inmates’ skills, productivity, and economic readiness after release from correctional institutions. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving inmates actively participating in cooperative management, tailoring, barber services, handicrafts, and guitar-making activities. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify major themes related to skill development and entrepreneurial independence among inmates. The findings revealed that partnership-based development programs positively contributed to improving technical skills, responsibility, work discipline, and participants’ self-confidence. Furthermore, the programs helped inmates understand business opportunities and prepare for economic independence after completing their sentences. Partnership-based development programs also functioned as a form of social rehabilitation that supports inmates’ reintegration into society.
