Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of deconstruction developed by Jacques Derrida and its relevance to contemporary hermeneutics. Deconstruction emerges as a critique of Western metaphysics, which traditionally assumes meaning to be stable and final. Through the concept of différance, Derrida argues that meaning is always deferred and constructed through the relational play of linguistic signs. Meanwhile, hermeneutics, as a theory of interpretation, seeks to understand textual meaning through a dialogical engagement between text, author, and reader within specific historical contexts. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods to examine the relationship between deconstruction and hermeneutics. The findings indicate that although deconstruction appears to challenge the foundations of classical hermeneutics, both approaches reject the notion of singular and absolute meaning. Therefore, deconstruction can be seen as a critical enrichment of contemporary hermeneutics, particularly in opening space for interpretative plurality and fostering awareness of the instability of meaning within texts.
