Abstract

Deixis is one of the branches of pragmatics that functions to indicate persons, places, and times whose references depend on the context of an utterance. The use of deixis is not only found in spoken communication but also in literary works, including novels. Daun Pun Berdzikir by Taufiqurrahman Al-Azizy was selected as the object of this study because it contains various forms of deixis that contribute to the development of the storyline and relationships among characters. This study aims to describe the forms of deixis found in the novel. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The data consisted of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences containing deixis in the novel Daun Pun Berdzikir. Data were collected through reading, note-taking, and documentation techniques, while data analysis was conducted by identifying, classifying, and describing the forms of deixis based on George Yule’s theory. The findings revealed 874 instances of deixis, consisting of 813 person deixes, 16 place deixes, and 45 time deixes. Person deixis was the most dominant type, comprising 247 first-person deixes, 168 second-person deixes, and 398 third-person deixes. In conclusion, the use of deixis in Daun Pun Berdzikir is predominantly characterized by person deixis, which functions as a marker of participants in speech events.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menguraikan bentuk representasi serta peran sosial laki-laki dan perempuan dalam novel Perempuan di Titik Nol karya Nawal El Saadawi. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasari oleh kayakinan bahwa sastra tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sumber hiburan, melainkan juga mencerminkan realitas sosial, termasuk ketidaksetaraan gender dan hubungan kekuasaan patriarki yang mempengaaruhi kehidupan perempuan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan feminisme sosialis Friedrich Engels. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa narasi dan dialog dalam novel yang mengandung simbolis gender. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengaan teknik baca dan catat, kemudian dianalisis dengan cara mengidentifikasi, mengklarifikasi, dan menginterpretasikan data berdasarkan kategori representasi gender. Analisis data mengikuti model Miles dan Huberman, yang mencakup reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa representasi gender dalam novel terwujud dalam empat bentuk utama dengan total 88 data.

Abstract

This research examines the shift in the Butonese Cia-Cia language among teenagers in Warau Hamlet, Huamual District, West Seram Regency. The formulation of the research problem includes the pattern of use of the Butonese Cia-Cia language among teenagers and the factors that cause this language shift. The aim of this research is to describe the pattern of use of the Butonese Cia-Cia language and identify the factors that cause language shift among teenagers in Warau Hamlet. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with stages of planning, preparation, implementation and data analysis. Data was obtained through collecting information from teenagers as research informants. The research results show that the use of the Butonese Cia-Cia language among teenagers is experiencing a shift. In the family environment, teenagers use Indonesian and the Ambon dialect more than Butonese Cia-Cia. In the community, the use of regional languages ​​is limited to maintain smooth communication and tolerance between residents. Meanwhile, in the school environment, the Butonese Cia-Cia language is not taught so its use is decreasing. Factors that cause language shifts include the lack of language inheritance from parents to children from an early age, the dominant use of the Ambonese dialect in daily life, and the influence of globalization which encourages the use of Indonesian and languages ​​that are more commonly used in social communication. Thus, the Butonese Cia-Cia language has experienced a decline in usage among the teenagers of Warau Hamlet.
