Abstract

Injury is almost inseparable risk of sport participation and may threaten the sustainability of an athlete’s career. Although the Semarang Regency Sports Committee (KONI) oversees roughly 44 sport blanches with more than 500 athletes, systematic data on the injury profile of the population have not previously been available. This stydu aimed to descrive the epidemiological injury profile of club-based athletes under KONI Semarang Regency, covering prevalence, type, mechanism, anatomical location, timing, severity, and recurrence. A descriptive cross-sectional design was applied using stratified random sampling of 160 active athletes from 25 sports branches (mean age 20.3 ± 5.8 years; 50.6% female), using structured questionnaire adapted from the Sports Injury Assessment Form. Within the past 12 months, 32.5% of athletes (n=25) reported having sustained an injury. Sprains were the most common injury type (40.4%), followed by contusions and strains (23.1% each). Most injuries occurred during training rather than competition, and were attributed to overuse (36.5%). The right knee (28.8%) and left knee (25.0%) were the most frequently affected sites. Although most injuries were classified as mind (55.8%), the recurrence rate was relatively high (46.2%). These findings underline the need for a structured injury-prevention programme and an ongoing injury surveillance system within KONI Semarang Regency.
