Abstract

The decrease in rice production and the high cost of agricultural inputs, especially inorganic fertilizers are important problems faced by farmers in Sukosari village, Sukowono District, Jember Regency. Therefore, farmers need simple, affordable, and environmentally friendly technologies that can use local resources. One possible solution is the use of Local Microorganisms (MOL) as a bio activator to help manage organic materials and support organic farming. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of members of “Kebon Jaya” Farmer Group in producing MOL from bamboo and mimosa roots. The activities included problem identification, preparation, socialization, training, monitoring and evaluation. A participatory approach was used through presentations, demonstrations, and practice involving 20 participants. The results showed that participants were able to understand and practice the main step of MOL production, including preparing and processing the material, mixing the ingredients and fermentation process. The activity increased farmers knowledge and encouraged them to produce MOL independently. It also promoted the use of local resources to support more efficient, independent, and sustainable organic rice farming practices.
