Abstract

The expansion of digital religious communication has created new challenges for religious moderation in Indonesia, particularly through the circulation of exclusive, intolerant, and radical narratives in digital spaces. This study examines the praxis of Islam Nusantara as a cultural basis for strengthening religious moderation and developing counter-narratives to cyber radicalism through the integration of Islamic values and local wisdom. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through document analysis and digital observation of religious content across social media platforms and were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The findings reveal three interrelated patterns. First, Islam Nusantara praxis has expanded from community-based religious traditions into digital spaces through culturally contextualized religious communication. Second, the integration of Islamic principles with local values, particularly tolerance (tasamuh), balance (tawazun), moderation (tawassuth), social solidarity, and respect for diversity, provides a cultural foundation for promoting inclusive religious narratives. Third, these values contribute to the construction of counter-narratives that challenge exclusive and radical religious discourse by employing contextual, dialogical, and culturally familiar messages. The study suggests that Islam Nusantara can provide a culture-based framework for strengthening religious moderation in digital environments. These findings highlight the importance of integrating religious values, local wisdom, and digital religious literacy in developing context-sensitive strategies to address cyber radicalism in Indonesia.
