Abstract

This community service program was implemented to address the low levels of motivation and participation among the residents of Cabean Village, Demak Regency, regarding the management of the "Ayo Kita Menabung" (Let's Save) Waste Bank. The challenges identified included low public awareness regarding waste sorting, limited capacity among program facilitators (cadres) to conduct outreach, and a suboptimal waste bank administrative system. The program aimed to enhance the capacity of these cadres—acting as program drivers—to motivate the community, boost resident participation, and strengthen the sustainable governance of the waste bank. A community empowerment approach was employed, utilizing methods such as observation, outreach, training, field practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The material covered 3R-based waste management (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), persuasive communication, strategies to boost community motivation, waste bank administration, and practical outreach to residents. Evaluation was conducted through observation, interviews, group discussions, and questionnaires. The results demonstrated an improvement in the cadres' knowledge and skills regarding education, mentoring, and waste bank administration. Public awareness regarding the importance of waste management and its economic benefits also increased, evidenced by higher resident participation in waste deposits. Furthermore, the administrative system became more organized and transparent, thereby increasing community trust. The program successfully strengthened cadre capacity while supporting the sustainability of the community-empowerment-based waste bank management
