Abstract

Sonar is a technology that uses the propagation of sound waves to detect the position of an object. Usually, fishermen use sonar to detect fish locations. The problem is that the price of sonar is still expensive, so not all fishermen can afford to use it. One of the devices that can be developed is the HC-SR04 module. HC-SR04 has simple components, and the price is cheap. The use of HC SR04 is still very minimal, so it is necessary to analyze the accuracy of its distance readings on various objects and conditions. The research was conducted using experimental methods in August-September 2023 at the Fishing Exploitation Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Brawijaya University. The distance data generated by HC-SR04 is used to measure ceramic, Styrofoam, and fish. Based on the research results, it is known that ceramic and styrofoam objects have a calculated t value = 0 while the one-tail Critical t = 1.65, which means the average distance produced by the tool is the same as the average distance by manual measurement. Meanwhile, in the t-test, the fish samples obtained a value of t stat = 23.24 and t Critical one-tail = 1.65. This shows that the tool will show distance measurement results that differ from manual measurements. Furthermore, the RMSE value of distance measurements on ceramic and Styrofoam objects obtained an average value of 0, which means the measurements are very accurate. Meanwhile, the average RMSE value for fish objects = 37.67, which means that the tool measurements are inaccurate.

Abstract

The phenomenon of missing fishing gear during operation (Ghost fishing or Abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) becomes one of the serious problems in passive fishing gear. It's still a challenge and consensual for researchers to find the solution to solve this issue. This research is a steps of efforts to overcome it by using crab snares construction that has been used for recreational fishing activities. Crab snares consists of bait components and snaring rope. The research step consists of designing trap construction; selecting materials; building fishing gear; and conduct laboratory-scale trials. Then calculations of the effectiveness of the snare to catch crabs at various sizes. Observations during laboratory trials show that crab snares are capable of catching various sizes of crabs. Furthermore, the crabs caught were categorized into small, medium and large size groups based on their carapace width. analysis results of the effectiveness of catching snares show the highest value is 94.6% for catching large crabs, in the second position the effectiveness value is 86.4% for catching small crabs and the lowest is for catching medium crabs the effectiveness value still reaches 84.6%.

Abstract

Lift net is a fishing tool that belongs to the lifting net group. In terms of construction, there are two types of lift net, namely: stationary lift net and floating lift net. Stationary lift net are a type of static fishing gear. The advantage of this fishing gear is that it gives fishermen certainty about the fishing location. However, if fishermen are not wise in exploiting fish, the catch will decrease, the reason is that stationary lift net will rely heavily on the stock/abundance of local fish in these waters. This is different from floating lift net which are able to change positions. The method is to pull the lift net with the help of the boat. Usually fishermen will move the position of any lift net when the catch is low or the weather is bad. Thus, research was carried out regarding the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation of the lift net by conducting experimental fishing in Probolinggo waters. The results of the independent t test show a significance value of 0.152, which means there is no difference in catches between the stationary lift net and the floating lift net.

Abstract

Trammel net is a type of gill net. Usually, fishermen operate trammel nets to catch shrimp. Many fishermen build trammel nets traditionally without going through a standard design and construction process. They bought webbing on the market to assemble them into three layers of net and equipped with rope components and buoys, sinker, and selvedge. Meanwhile, to realize the effectiveness of fishing and managing fisheries activities, the government regulates the standard form of trammel net through SNI 01-7237-2006. Thus, it is necessary to evaluate the suitability of the standard form of trammel net based on SNI rules. This research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method. The research locations are in three villages which are fishing bases for trammel net fishermen in Kotabaru Waters, namely: Pantai Village; Salino Village; and Sungai Pasir Village. The results from the three trammel net sample sizes: small; medium and large have scores of 89%; 95%; and 95% which are in the very suitable category.
